Sounds Like
Pick any good (or critically acclaimed, or commercially successful) CD...skip to any section and listen for 30 seconds. In 30 seconds you should know who the band/artist is. If someone listens to one of TGNP's releases and can't figure out who it is in 30 seconds, we failed. If your album doesn't pass the test, find the artists you sound most like and buy their album, see them live, and put their poster on your wall. Then maybe form a cover band doing their songs...you will be happier than trying to force yourself not to sound like them.
Founded in 2003 to release the first album from Mel gibson and the Pants. (because who else would?) Now made up of Band members (Ryan, Drew, Busse) and Max, TGNP is a label that makes cds and records and sells them. So far our marketing budget is tiny, so is every other budget. The real advantage of releasing with TGNP is independence and creative freedom. TGNP produces the product and helps get it in stores, as well as selling it on our website. Sometimes we'll back albums from the idea stage all the way to being retail ready (like Mel Gibson and the Pants) other times we'll pick up an existing project and put our stamp on it, like we did with Thurniture.
We are interested in working with graphic designers, video artists, screen printers, grafitti artists, production companies, booking agents, and anyone else with a vision that is more than a means to a financial reward. TGNP would love to make cash money, but that can get in the way of artistic fulfilment....so we're going to do what we do and hope people dig it.
We also want to thank the community here in MPLS...it wasn't untill you all started taking us seriously that we started taking ourselves seriously. From the doomtree crew to the jazz guys, from people at the clubs to folks in the stores- thanks. We could do this somewhere else, maybe...but why?
