The Touring Gengz© Complete Tour Guide/Journal
May 12th to 15th May 2006
Duration approx. time = 8/12 hours
Start of time to destination = 0100hrs
Estimated time to reach destination = 1200hrs
Stoppage time from point to point for gas/break
on every 200km approx.
Easy currency exchange to remember:
1000Baht = RM100 = S$40 esti.

Day 1: Meeting point at 'Gelang Patah' Petronas.
At 0050hrs, the Touring Gengz© met at Gelang Patah
Petronas gas station to round up before we start our
destination. However we were delayed by one hour
because Mr Yan apparently overslept so Shahreel and
Reny agreed to wait for his brother Yan while the rest
got the green light to go ahead with the current plan.
So instead of our starting destination at 0100hrs, we
headed at about 0200hrs to our next 200km stop.
Precaution guide 1: Refill gas at every 200km. Why?
The reason why we refill at every 200km is all about
common sense and for saftey reasons. The Gengz travel
at a fast speed around 160km/h to 200km/h. Did you
know that by travelling at constant speed of 160km/h
takes up more gas than travelling at a lower speed for
many hours? This is why we refill our tanks at every
point. Usually, after 200km of travelling there are
probably about half to 3 Quarter full tank. Just for
precaution we advised to refil at every 200-350km.
Incident 1: Going to KL's Hard Rock is it?
The conditions along the Malaysian Highway has improved
in recent years. We were along the province of Malacca
and the weather condition was wet. I was with Ban and
ahead of us was Hafiz and Ida. The rest of the geng
were about a few kilometers away and we were a little
behind. Instead of turning left to avoid going thru
the city Kuala Lumpur, the two bikes Hafiz and Ban
passed cruised the wrong direction towards the city.
We did saw the rest of the geng put on their hazard
lights and stopped along the road shoulder but we went
ahead and lost our way. We knew we shouldn't be at the
city. It was around 0645hrs, Hafiz and Ban lost sight
of the rest and our way. Immediately, we had to make a
call to Wak and Shahreel at the gas station nearby
to tell them we ARE AHEAD of them but to different
destination. Eventually, we managed to meet up the rest
but that was after 4 hours along Tapah Road I think.

The Two Culprits
How to exit Kuala Lumpur to Rawang instructions.
Thanks to Ban and Hafiz error, we can guide you back
to the original route to Rawang/Jalan Patah/Ipoh.
Easy, follow the normal route of the highway of Kuala
Lumpur till you reach the Plaza Toll and from there
stick to exit B sign on your far Right which displays
Ipoh..so from there you can cruise safely to Rawang
and up north Ipoh.
The Gengz finally re-grouped around 1100hrs.
Awesome! After a thrilling ride of 9hours, we knew that
we were not going to make it in Hatyai by noon as we
had calculated. 14 hours is Touring Gengz©
record for the longest duration to reach destination.
The Geng met in Taiping for lunch break. It was sunny
out about 32 degrees celcius and most of us were on
full suit. 2-3 more hours journey to Sadao, Thailand.
Road Tax/Insurance? before entering Thai border.
Touring Gengz© advises riders to get their road
tax/Insurance at the Petronas money changer in Gurun
before entering the immigration point at Sadao to avoid
hassles. It cost RM16.00 for the tax/insurance.

Hot and Tired huh?
Final Checkpoint: Sadao Immigration Checkpoint.
In Sadao checkpoint please remember to have RM 1.00 per
person to come with the passport. I guess it is like a
toll fee or somethin'. There is a Duty-Free mall 200m
away before the checkpoint. Maybe you want to check it
out before entering.
Geng gettin ready to move on to Hatyai.
Tour Completed: Southern Thailand, Hatyai.
We were already behind time but we were delighted to
reach Thailand. I bet everyone was very eager to reach
the hotel to jump into the bathtub. It was a very long
journey. Hella an experience for first timers like me.
The Gengz met up with Alex our tour guide and
led us to the Golden Crown Hotel. The time was
about 1530hrs to 1600hrs and completed our journey

Day 2/3: Around Hatyai.
On this section, Touring Gengz© will bring you
some of the places that we visited. Hatyai, like any
other city, food, shopping and other entertainment
outlets are more or less the same. The differences
are probably the cost and its unique culture. Hatyai
is quite a busy street during the day and night. The
best and cheapest way to travel is by hiring a taxi
which the locals called it "Tuk Tuk".
Gengz in Tuk Tuk
The fare for one trip is 20Baht per person. So now you
know how to get from one place to another without any
problem because Hatyai is not really a big city and
chances are you won't get lost. And if you do, you can
can ask around from the locals. They are very friendly
people. There could be a language barrier as most of
them understand little English. Probably 60% of the
population there speak some bits of Malaysian. In my
opinion language is not a problem in Thailand.

Food: Local delicacy.
Whenever anyone mentioned Thailand, obviously we will
think about Tom Yam. Yes, it is one of their
famous National food. Ok, have you heard of eating
Char Kueh with Kaya? I didn't believe it until
one of geng brought me to a stall in Central. I
never thought of having Char Kueh dipped with Kaya.
Have you ever thought of that? I bet not.

Places: Downtown Central, Hatyai.
Central Hatyai is the main area for commercial and
business district with grand hotels, shopping centers,
banks and restaurants. There are several good stalls
along the streets that sell varieties of food. To name
a few like "Pulut Mangga/Durian" and the exotic fruits.
One common place is the Lee Garden Plaza.

Shopping: Bike shops/license plates and Market
There are a lot of bike shops in Hatyai if you drive
around the vicinity. We went to couple of places and
also the license plate workshop which fabricates Thai
scriptures and translations.

Wak with that awful lookin helmet.

Next stop: Market.
In Hatyai, there is one particular place called "Pasar"
which is market and they sell goods like clothings,
football jerseys and loads of T-shirts hence those
are good qualities for a small price, you can actually
bargain until you hear 'em shop keepers saying:
"Tak boleh bang..Rugi..Tak untung". I think that
was hillarious. Besides clothings you can enjoy their
local food delicacies of fruits and crackers.
