Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary provides care and a home for life to over 400 rescued animals. The Sanctuary was set up in 1993 and is run virtually single handedly by Fiona Oakes. Fiona's partner Martin helps out at weekends.

Fiona is also an elite marathon runner coming 22nd in London in '06 and 17th in Berlin. Representing Great Britain in the '92 Olympics in track cycling, Fiona switched to running a few years ago. Fiona is also a retained Fire-fighter one of only a handfull of female Fire-fighters in Essex.

Fiona has been a Vegan for over 20 years.

In 2004 Fiona was awarded the Vegan Achievement Award by the Vegan Society.

In 2007 Fiona was asked to be a Patron of the Charity CAPS (Captive Animal Protection Society) along with Jay Kay, Brian Sewell & Peter Tatchel and others.

Fiona became the Essex County Marathon Champion in 2007 by winning the Halstead Marathon. She didn't only win it, she took 11 minutes off the 13 year course record! Not bad for someone with a knee replacement.

Amongst the rescued animals at the Sanctuary you will fund 33 Horses, 4 Cows, 48 Cats, 32 Dogs, 38 Pigs, 12 Goats, 16 Turkeys, and numerous smaller animals. Note that all the Dogs live with us in the house!

Fiona's philosophy is that "I am privileged to be able to care for my animals, I do not regard them as my property. I do not attach a financial value to any of them. I try to allow them to interact with each other, where appropriate, in as natural environment as possible with me being there as the "overseer & carer". My objectives are to give every animal in my care, love and the best possible quality of life I can, and when the time comes, dignity in death".

It costs over £5000 per month to feed the animals and this is met through the support of around 160 members worldwide. (50% of costs) The balance is met from Fiona's partners salary who works for a US Bank and her own income as a Fire-Fighter.

Tower Hill Stables is not run as a business, nothing is deducted from any donation to cover admin, costs or salaries - there are no staff after all!

For further details please see the Sanctuary website here.

New members are very welome & you can sponsor a rescued animal from just £2 per month via a simple Standing Order form.

Members can come & vist the "gang" on the Open Days which are in June & December.

We also now have a monthly Dog walk on the last Sunday in the month - you can take a resced Dog for a walk in the countryside & have a bite to eat when you get back.

Please consider joining the Sanctuary, we desperately need your help.

Please add the banner to your page, by copying the code in the box, and help raise awareness. Or see here for a couple more. Thanks!

And please do all your ON-LINE shopping HERE & help the animals without costing you extra!

Recently, the Northern Territory government announced plans to kill 3000 camels by means of aerial shooting in the township of Docker River.
Thirsty and in search of water, the camels converged on the community of Docker River. Instead of assisting the community by building barriers to keep the camels out of the township and investing in long term solutions such as research into birth control or the construction of a manmade waterhole for the camels to drink from, the government are planning to herd the animals away from the town, shoot them and leave their bodies to rot.

Despite the outrage of thousands of concerned people from around the world, the Northern Territory government has given the green light for the cull to go ahead and thousands of scared camels are now being annihilated by marksmen from helicopters.

Please click here to voice your opposition to the cull.

    Tofu & Zucchini Pasta
    Gaia's Aunt Lucie's recipe

    Photobucket

    • 900g pasta
    • 1/2 - 1 bloc tofu, cubed
    • 3 cups zucchini, cubed
    • 2 cups green peppers, cubed or sliced
    • 1 1/4 white onion, diced
    • 56oz diced tomatoes, with juice
    • 20 fl.oz tomato condensed soup
    • 1/3 cup vegetable broth
    • 1 Tbsp salt
    • 1 Tbsp oregano
    • 2 tsp garlic granules
    • 2 tsp dried parsley
    • 2 tsp basil
    • 1 tsp black pepper
    • 1/2 tsp crushed chili peppers
    • Sauce sauce, or tamari, or Bragg's

Cook chosen pasta according to directions - meanwhile, prepare "sauce":

Sauté tofu in a little oil and season with sauce sauce.

Add vegetables and cook on medium heat while stirring constantly until vegetables are tender.

Add all other ingredients and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes.

Add some vegan Parmesan and you are all set!
    enjoy!

CI SAREBBERO MENO BAMBINI MARTIRI SE CI FOSSERO MENO ANIMALI TORTURATI, MENO VAGONI PIOMBATI CHE TRASPORTANO ALLA MORTE LE VITTIME DI QUALSIASI DITTATURA SE NON AVESSIMO FATTO L'ABITUDINE AI FURGONI DOVE LE BESTIE AGONIZZANO SENZA CIBO E SENZ'ACQUA DIRETTE AL MACELLO, MENO SELVAGGINA UMANA STESA CON UN COLPO D'ARMA DA FUOCO SE IL GUSTO E L'ABITUDINE DI UCCIDERE NON FOSSERO PREROGATIVA(ignobile e di bastardi, girate il fucile e sparatevi in faccia NdR) DEI CACCIATORI.
