I draw much of my inspiration from the masterful songwriters of the blues--a genre not often associated with songwriting these days--writers like Mississippi John Hurt, Eric Bibb, Taj Mahal, and T-Bone Walker. And I have acquired many a trick and lick from the hundreds of their songs I have half-learned then forgotten. My goal is not to simply draw on tradition, but rather to step into it and help it to its future by writing music that is by and for the soul.
During a recent stint living in San Francisco, I formed a gypsy blues duo with guitarist Travis Magrane called the Rustics, and worked as a sideman to folk singer Anna Laube. Between these projects I cut my teeth at performing and had the pleasure of playing at couple of legendary venues: the Fillmore, and Biscuits and Blues. Now a resident of Portland, Oregon, I am further developing my own music as well as backing up a whole host of other talented songwriters.
Thanks so much for the Friend Request! Yes, I remember that time at B & B. Hope things are going well for you. I meant to check our your page before getting back to you....guess I'll go do it now! Cheers, Alice
Hey bud. Good to hear from you. I am in Idaho for the summer. Playing music for my living. Slim times. I hope to come out to Portland this summer. Don't have a date yet. Are you playing any shows where I could plug in or be an opening act? Maybe we could put a few shows together. Let me know if you have any desire to come this direction. Would love to get your music out to some folks around here. Been writing? Take care and talk soon, Batdorf
Thanks for playing here Saturday. You're a terrific player! Get back in touch this Fall to book a solo show next year at the Hare. I'll look forward to seeing you again soon.
His name is Town Rill, though his alias starts with a 'B', the name is not Bill, there isn't a riff that he couldn't kill, and he sings all his songs from the top of the hill.
