The program is part of Lawndale's ongoing commitment to support the creation of contemporary art by Houston area artists. With an emphasis on emerging practices, the program will initially provide three artists with studio space on the third floor of the Lawndale Art Center at 4912 Main Street in the heart of Houston's Museum District. The term of the studio residency program will be six months starting on January 2, 2007 and ending on June 30, 2007. Studio program applicants should submit: Application Form One page statement of intent. C.V. Work Examples: 15 SLIDES or DIGITAL IMAGES on a CD ordered in viewing priority. Image files must be in jpeg (*.JPG) format, no larger than 2048 x 1536 pixels at 72 dpi. VIDEO on DVD or CD. No more than 10 minutes of video able to be played on Windows Media Player, QuickTime, or a home DVD player. Image List (if applicable) Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope for return of materials. Nuestra Palabra	Oct 24 2006 3:24 PM NP & Lawndale Art Center Dia de Los Muertos Events starting Wednesday Literary Ofrenda Wednesday Oct. 25, 2006 Lawndale Art Center from 6:00 -8:00 pm Admission: FREE Spirits, snacks, prose, poetry, music, and memorias. In celebration of Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos, Lawndale and Houston's Nuestra Palabra: Latino Writers Having Their Say will present an evening of literary ofrendas (offerings) to the late authors, Trindad Sanchez Jr. and Gloria Anzaldúa. It's a unique Lawndale experience where local writers, poets and essayists will offer various forms of poetry and prose honoring these influential and internationally celebrated writers. Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Tony Diaz, author, Founder and Artistic Director of Nuestra Palabra. Special guests will include UH Professor Maria Gonzalez; San Antonio performance artist Anel Flores, spoken word artists Jasminne Rosario and Zelene Pineda, and dj poets Joe B. and Scorpio, and mas, always mas.
