Tracer Metula is the songwriting project/garage-rock combo maintained by Atlanta-based cartoonist, Jacob Hunt. The band materialized amid the renowned Athens, Georgia music scene in late 2003, soon becoming a champion of the local club circuit with its ear-catching melodies and snarling guitars in the splendid Pixies tradition of fractured pop.
The alt-weekly Flagpole took an early shining: “the band specializes in…irony-free, guitar-based rock. [There] is a tangible urgency apparent within Tracer Metula’s songs. Although clearly standing in the lineage of Elvis Costello, an adolescent U2 and any number of smart-and-furious indie bands, Tracer Metula manages to sound quite fresh and never relies wholeheartedly on anything it might claim as an ‘influence.’” And to paraphrase one enthusiastic doorman: “Wow! you guys actually play songs!”
After various line-up permutations, indie label flirtations, and festival stage occupations––including PopFest and a release party for the AthFest compilation on which Tracer Metula appeared––Hunt packed up his guitar and moved to Atlanta to record for a year before securing a new lineup.
With promising early buzz and their new EP in hand, Tracer Metula is set to melt faces and warm heart-cockles wherever those things are in supply.
The objective: Post-punk that's sexy and furious. Rock and roll that's sad and joyous. Pop music that's strange but familiar.
I'm writing because I have a new radio show beginning in July on the Brenau University's radio station, 89.1fm WBCX, Gainesville, GA.
the show, New Drive Radio, will play music ONLY from Indie bands. so, I'm hitting up some of my favorite bands and asking for music to load into the data base.
Two things: your status must technically be INDIE and
the music has to be radio-ready (no swearing).
I'm always looking for bands to interview live on the air, so if you're ever in the Atlanta area, hit me up.
If you'd like to have your music included regularly on the show, I'll need CDs or mp3s - so let me know if you're interested and I'll give you my email or mailing address.
haha. I need to do that very soon. Hey. I just redid the song at the top of the list. i think its much better now. I may try to play live sometime. maybe we could line something up in the future. keep the tunes a'cumminq.
