THE RUNAWAYS, GIRLSCHOOL and VIXEN are usually mentioned as the most popular all-female bands but people always seem to forget ROCK GODDESS who were very popular at the same time as THE RUNAWAYS & GIRLSCHOOL and were famous even before VIXEN came into the picture.
Let's take you back to 1976, when ROCK GODDESS was founded.
In '76 Jody Turner (Vocals/Keyboards) aged 13, sister Julie Turner (Drums) aged 9, and school friend Tracey Lamb (Bass guitar) aged 13, all met up after school one day at Jody & Julies Dad's rehearsal Rooms. They were initially taught to play by Jody & Julie's father John Turner who managed the band and owned the Ritz rehearsal rooms and music shop in Putney/Wandsworth. They started off by jamming and playing old rock classics like Tobacco Road and Summertime Blues. The girls were inspired by the punk movement and did a cover of Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols and decided to call the band THE GERM. TO READ MORE GO TO BLOG SECTION.
