And over the hills they came, riding ..l horses bearing the fruits of their labor: a style as expressive as a painter’s brush, with a sound more explosive than blasted waters. How to describe The Varsity? Think W.E. Dubois with an AK-47; or perhaps, Dorothy Dandridge in skinny jeans. But whatever mishmash you forecast; know that this Texas bred quartet was made to weather the storm.
Divided, they are simply: Hogan, J. Royal, Clarke, and Samy Rox. Hogan, The Varsity’s in house producer and lyricist, delivers a musical melee with the weight of a gauntleted hand; yet with skill echoing the most seasoned surgeon. At 25, J Royal has reached his silky stride. With a signature voice that pounds like angry doldrums, this Dallas, Texas native brings royalty to the hood.
And what about Clarke? Well, he read Mein Kampf at the age of 12… for fun! A professionally trained, ivy-league-degreed, ambassador of the arts; his chiseled mind paints a lyrical landscape bursting with rich hues that, were not for Samy Rox’s propulsive beauty, might never be out shined. It is a beauty that survived the watery gallows of Katrina, and now radiates from the warm streets of Atlanta, GA. Her smoky voice cries the tender song of a buoyant soul, stretched far beyond her 23 years. She bubbles, she pops… she just plain Rox.
And so you have it: The Varsity. Think four solid identities that combine to form a higher power, like Voltron with a gold chain on, uniting to save the world. One good song at a time.
There is currently a search for two types of bands for record label consideration.

1. A Pop/Rock/Commercial band with female lead. Band must consist of 2 guitars (Prefer both guitar players to be of lead caliber. However, one lead and one rhythm is acceptable), keyboard/piano, bass, and drums. Lead vocal, followed by backing vocals, in that order, is a plus as it relates to other members of the group. Average age of the band cannot exceed 28 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
2. A Modern Rock band with male lead. Must be a complete band but there are no prerequisites as it relates to the make up of the band. Average age of the band cannot exceed 23 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
