tradGALWAY is a bunch of mainly traditional irish musicians
who started jamming and playing sessions in Galway City in
2005. The idea was and is to set up a session where pretty much all standards were welcome (except for complete beginner!) to
join in and play the tunes they could. Except for it being nominally a trad music session, nobody "runs" the session or dictates what tunes to play or songs to sing: everyone is welcome to start up tunes and join in on other ones.
Two years later with successful residencies in Crowes Bar, The Imperial Hotel, Monroes, and now The Western Hotel, the session has become THE place for musicians and singers from
Galway and beyond to come and jam. The group has been invited twice to Switzerland to play gigs at Bulle and Châtel-St-Denis. Their residency is currently at The Western Hotel, thursday nights at 9.30, where just about anyone might show up, with jam sessions swelling at times to twelve muicians. Expect a fun session, full of spontaneity, often with bluegrass, gypsy, blues, eastern european music thrown in to the mainly trad acoustic mix.
New and visiting musicians always very welcome!

hey to everyone at the galway trad session from Arundo - thanks for adding us as a friend :) you'd never no we might bump into each other at some stage this year; we've some gigs I think up in Achill Island sometime during the year... Slán for now, Kevin
I might be over for two weeks in August (for the fleadh) , and if I do I'd likely swing through Galway for two days.... it would be great to get in a few tunes.
Thanks Michael - I am glad you like folkjam.org and honored that you compare it to baked beans and sliced pan. If you had added jacket potatoes and/or treacle pudding to the comparison I would have been elated.
Thank you for maing sure so much of Galway's trad scene is represented on the site.
Hey, we were all folk last night ourselves.. banjos, ukeleles and flutes! Check out Thingumajigsaw and Peter Delaney, they were the acts. Our best night yet.
