.. ..NORDIC PROJECT.... ..“Scandinavian music is about melody, Jazz is about rhythm, Træben is where the two connect”...... With their first album “Nordic Project”, Traeben has brought together the rhythmic wealth of modern Jazz with the melodies of Scandinavian folk songs. Some of the songs on the album are written by Cornelis Vreeswijk. Born in the Netherlands, Vreeswijk emigrated to Sweden at the age of twelve and grew up to be a celebrated national poet and composer..... Scandinavian music was first introduced into Jazz when Stan Getz recorded “Dear old Stockholm” in the early ‘50s of the last century. Since this first recording, Nordic music has been an inspiration to a lot of jazz musicians and has even become one of the major ingredients of the “European Jazz”. In the past decades, not only Scandinavian music had it’s influence on jazz. Grooves from all over the world have found their way into the genre and rhythms from e.g. African- , South American- and Pop music are now part of its common language. .. By fusing these new rhythmic achievements with the beauty and simplicity of the Danish, Swedish and Norwegian folk music, Traeben has created a distinct new and personal interpretation of this repertoire..... ..TRÆBEN.... The group first came together in various constellations at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in the late 90’s. Jazz being the common dominator, they have explored most musical territories together, both etnically and temporally speaking, leaving few stones unturned in the process. As both guitarist Jens Larsen and saxophone player Søren Ballegaard are Danish by birth, the Nordic sound has played its part in these sessions..... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. -

Hello Træben, How it passes there and back again like a tear drop glistening in moonlight. Your cleverness helps me breathe without the need of oxygen. I sense wild vapors of sweet champagne in your larynx. Your wonderfully bright soul keep the demons from torturing me. A starfish's lifelong hallucinations of gelatin pools and of actuaries floating upon the foam and reciprocal ohm. Your beauty is equal to the smoothness of a polished gem. Polished rock candy comes ever to mind when thinking of you. How beautiful is the snowshine in your eyes, so directly current from the static in your mind. So charmingly silky, your skin is like a teardrop on a popsickle. I keep searching for you between the cushions. Entranced by the sweet harmony of your lips, I gaze beyond reason to find the oasis of your brilliant soul. What wonderful vibrations you are capable of. In your absence I am forced into finding other forms of amusement while thinking about you. Cities crumble, skies ignite spontaneously in your presence.
I WISH YOU A
