Terry Hill was amazing. He played in groups around New York and then Knoxville, Tennessee for many years. He was an incredible player and his teaching and playing styles still influence me. Terry passed a few years ago, and I miss him. Recently several of Terry's surviving family have reached out to me and I greatly appreciate it. Such nice folks! It's great to share and listen to Terry stories after so many years. Check out www.terryhill.org for some guitar hero action!
My uncle, Robert Farrell Shuler is also a big influence. I still love listening to his stories and learning both about playing and recording music from one of the greats!
Sounds Like
Just about anything. I play or have played Persian chamber music, rock, country rock, hip hop, afropop, blues, classical, and jazz and am happy to try my hand at any style that might suit a project. I love learning about new music and new projects keep my ear to the ground for old and new sounds.
My website is WWW.TRANESSOUND.COM. Please drop by and take a look (or listen).
My name is Nathan Dillon. I lived in New York for four and a half years and now I live in Chicago! I play music for a living. I write and perform my own music, which is a blend of many traditions. I have played and studied many different kinds of music including jazz, classical, Americana, and Afro pop. All of these styles and many others are great influences on the music you hear on this myspace site. It comes out under the name "Tranessound Studio".
I am a multi instrumentalist. My main instrument is guitar but I also play banjo, lap steel guitar, Dobro, mandolin, bass, percussion, and keyboards. Ninety nine percent of Tranessound's music is performed live and that alone sets Tranessound apart from other film/TV music. This creates an intimacy and, well, human, quality to the music coming out of Tranessound Studio. Leave the midi tracks at home and get some real, human music from the Tranessound.
I also teach guitar and rock band (yes, rock band) classes at Catherine Cook School in Old Town. I involve my students in active listening and performing while sharing history and theory along the way. But most importantly, I observe my students, and create lessons that fit with their learning style and areas of musical interest. But I observe my students because I know that I am learning along with them; they will show me what will inspire them to learn and have fun. It's my job to find those sparks and fuel that fire of creative curiosity. With the exception of actually playing music for a living, teaching children music is the greatest job in the world. No doubt about it.
I hope this site attracts people who a) need an original soundtrack for a film or commercial, b) need guitar/music lessons, c) need a guitar, steel or dobro player for recording/performing, or d) are a long lost friend I would love to hear from. Thanks for visiting and reading. Please feel free to contact me any time!
It can be so tempting to just go through the motions sometimes... especially when you're living a dream... or (in the oh too common scenario) dreaming about chasing your dreams while chasing the means to acquire them... or the next best thing... or maybe just anything…
Yes, I know that we are tried and tired, notwithstanding all the hope that's been goin' around. Yes, I know that we are searching for an intangible something meaningful to do... the next stage in human evolution maybe… revolution... but without the circles.... hoping to enjoy that sacred cycle in the pursuit of happiness.
...how about finishing what we've started?
Each one: get up, and make it happen; be your own Obama.

I love your blurb about teaching music to kids. There really ISN'T anything like seeing the light go on when they find something musical that grabs them. I always loved that part the best. :)
