TRANSFER are as much a nod to modern rock music as the psychedelia of the 60's and 70's. A four-piece hailing from San Diego, made up of Matthew Molarius (vocals/guitar/bass), Jason Cardenas (lead guitar/vocals), Shaun Cornell (bass/keyboard/vocals), and Andy Ridley (Drums). TRANSFER exhibits all the grandeur of British rock, yet is rooted in the gritty allure of the American west. Transfer was formed by childhood friends and songwriting partners, Jason Cardenas and Matthew Molarius who grew up in a small agricultural town in Northern California. Matthew, the son of a rancher, and Jason, the son of the town's police chief, shared their love for classics, instilled upon them by older siblings and parents - Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The traction from their increasingly dramatic and refined live shows has snowballed into critical acclaim with a collection of San Diego Music Awards and continuous sellout performances. In 2009, they secluded themselves in Cornell's Blue Roof Studios, a remote ranch in the hills of San Diego, and emerged with a collection of songs they titled 'FUTURE SELVES'. Enlisting the hard hitting drumming skills of British transplant Andy Ridley, Transfer stands poised to introduce its expansive sound that spans the genres of their collective influence. <br> FUTURE SELVES captures the music of right now, or, more specifically, a moment from now, with a haunting clarity. It turns a corner from the scorching, wild-haired exuberance of their 2008 Sunken Eyes EP, embracing a far more realised and courageous sound. Yet it's without irony that, amid the deftly placed samples and highly polished production, these songs are fleshed out by the most organic of instrumentation, including almost hymnal choral passages, doleful brass, piano, organ and strings (courtesy of the San Diego Symphony). The most profound moments of FUTURE SELVES actually feel rooted in tradition, echoing the century-old soundtrack of untouched Western landscapes and smoke-filled down-home blues bars. Constructed around the raspy, soulful songwriting that is the linchpin to Transfer's sound, these songs recognize that stepping into the future– even a cold, anxious and desolate one– does not require leaving the warmest elements of our past behind.
