About me:

Trans/Giving is a unique, award-winning series that showcases the immense talent of transgender, genderqueer, and intersex artists in Los Angeles and abroad. Trans/Giving functions as both a showcase for experienced artists and as a space to try out new ideas and directly address the concerns of those who are new to performing. We strive to be a space where people from many different communities and backgrounds can connect and share their talents. While some of our past artists have addressed gender issues directly, this is by no means a requirement -- we are interested in sharing the best work of all members of our communities, whatever the theme. Trans/Giving believes that the strongest statement we can make as artists is simply through our art.

and I hope you'll consider coming.  It's a public event so spread the word.  The more the merrier!

FTM Book Vol. 1 = OUT NOW!!!!!

    About FTM Book Vol. 1
FTM Book Vol 1: A Basic Introduction to Transman Life is an easy-to-understand, yet comprehensive primer on FTM issues such as:

    What is an FTM?
    How do FTMs see themselves?
    Appearance
    Stages in Transition
    Surgeries Available
    Common Personal Histories
    Violence
    Discrimination
    Health Issues
    Counseling
    Relationships
    Common Legal Issues

We've worked hard to help create definitions that will help you talk about trans issues with others, including terms for body parts unique to the FTM and by naming the stages of transitioning. This book is great for anyone who who is having trouble understanding the lifestyle or choices of a transperson. When we first began dating, we were shocked that there was no one place that he (Aaron) could turn to show me (Crystal) "See, this explains what being an FTM means." We hope that this book will be a good start.

Best of all, when you order FTM Book Vol. 1: A Basic Introduction to Transman Life you can feel good knowing that sales of the book are being used to fund more research to help FTMs and their partners get through the challenges of their lives. This is a great book for youself and for anyone you know who could use a little more understanding. Also, you can help teach others about trans issues by donating copies to your local high schools, colleges, LGBT centers and libraries.

    Get your copy here: http://www.cafepress.com/muskegon115

FTM Book Vol. 2 is also in the works (more focus on relationship issues etc), as well as a few other things to be announced...

I AM HONORED TO BE PART OF THIS SHOW:

    gender play

    GenderPlay in lesbian culture

    Exhibit opening – Saturday, March 14th 3pm - 6pm
With singer & boi-wonder Phranc, emcee Marie Cartier
& performance art from Latina trio Butchlalis de Panochtitlan.

L.A.’s first-ever exhibition that explores gender and its boundaries and the changing nature of lesbian identity. Discover cross-dressers and tobacco-chewers of the American Civil War and the Wild West, stone butches, high femmes, and kiki's of the 1950s through the Lesbian Feminist 1970s to queers, bois, and trans people of today.
See how ‘passing’ gave opportunity and language to women’s sexuality – from two-spirit to genderqueer today. GenderPlay challenges our labels, asks us to re-think our stereotypes, and looks at how lesbians define ourselves & what turns us on.
All re-mixed with vintage photos, archival docs, film clips, and historic first person quotes.

626 N. Robertson Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90069 (Gallery Entrance on El Tovar)
    Exhibit runs March 14 - May 23, 2009. Fri 4-8pm, Sat & Sun 1-5pm

    Produced by:
LEX – the Lesbian Exploratorium Project & ONE Archives Gallery & Museum.
Co-sponsored by The City of West Hollywood & LA Pride/Christopher Street West.
    For details: thelexinfo@gmail.com

    Dress up if you can!

*This is a community event (suggested donation $10 but no-one turned away for lack of funds).
