About me:

During the first half of the 1970s, The New York Dolls established a hard-earned reputation as the last word in rock'n'roll hedonism. Combining the attitude of the Rolling Stones, Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent with the romanticism of 1960s girl groups like the Shangri-Las and Crystals, The Dolls formulated the unlikely template for punk rock. Trash! recounts the full drug-fuelled story of the band, from their origins amidst the street gangs of New York's outer boroughs, through to their contemporary re-birth and the recent death of bassist Arthur Kane.
More than any other band, the New York Dolls laid the foundations of punk rock. By taking the flamboyant sass of Jagger and Richards to outrageous extremes and combining it with raw, dirty, rock 'n' roll; the Dolls set the agenda for the 1970s. Inspired by the original rebel spirit of rock 'n' roll and fuelled by almost every known controlled substance, the gender bending quintet cut a swathe across America, Europe and Japan, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Five years later, the rest of the world was still trying to catch up. Having influenced several generations of bands such as the Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Cramps, Twisted Sister, Hanoi Rocks, Jane's Addiction and Marilyn Manson, the surviving Dolls made a triumphant return in 2004. Featuring first-hand reminiscences, interviews with band members, classic tour anecdotes and archive material "Trash!" is the most comprehensive account of the New York Dolls incredible history ever compiled. In addition to detailing the band's wild five-year ride to oblivion, individual band members' post-Dolls careers are fully documented and explored. Similarly, the chaotic and creative maelstrom of the mid-seventies New York scene is evocatively recounted and the band's influences and diverse personalities are fully examined.
