Travelling Light is a project based in Bradford (UK) that aims to bring together talented musicians who are or have been homeless. We operate from a recording studio which is part of the Assisi House hostel and hold regular workshops across the North of England, which enable service users from other hostels and homeless services to access skills and equipment that allow them to explore their creativity and express themselves.
Many of our service users are extremely talented and have produced or performed music which they have written themselves- we also produce a monthly radio show on BCB 106.6fm which showcases the work we do both in the studio and on the road.
Service users are encouraged to work towards performing at gigs which we help organise and also to create professional sounding demos with a view to approaching people who may be able to help them further their creative aspirations.
This year in particular has been very successful in that several of our service users have appeared in the local press and on local radio (including a performance on BBC Radio Leeds). Another service user has recently been granted funding by the Princes Trust to set up his own commercial recording studio!
You can hear some of the work we have done by clicking on the profiles in our friends section- please leave a comment to let us know what you think :-)
We have just added several new song ideas and revamped our profile look. We should have more new songs up in the next couple of days, as well as new material on Thus The Tensilemen, Kittychan, and Patriarchal Sounds. Please join us in this repentance of playlist and leave us feedaback on our new songs when you invite us to hear your new sounds because as always we love reading what you have to say about our creations, so let us know what you think.
We are gonna be playing our sounds again on July 21st up some canyon in Logan. We are going to miss out on seeing Built To Spill playing that night so you know its got to be fun. Bring a tent and some songs to sing.
