"Travels is a safe house in a world of confusion, and despite the scant furnishings, it has plenty of ornamental trappings to keep things more than interesting and entertaining. Intimate and intense, with daring dialogue and characters, Travels is an unpolished but compassionate gem of a pop album, and something we all dearly need more of in our lives."- Tiny Mix Tapes (4/5)
"Golden Sun" finds the pair riding an eerie, stammering beat and fighting a murky haze of noise to transmit positivity between blurred waves. A slow whoosh of crackling distortion fizzes over circular harmonies as the duo's iridescent voices twirl upward into a gleaming helix...Warm, firm and reassuring, the song has all the qualities of a good hug"- Spin.com
"The resulting collection of songs is intimate, passionate, and is the musical equivalent to a warm and fuzzy patchwork quilt that makes you cozy and just feels like home. It is mood music."- Can You See The Sunset
"If Travels' ability to stitch together overlooked odds and ends from the underground like some sort of musical Doctor Frankenstein wasn't reason enough to give the band a chance, its knack for arrangements full of twists and turns should do it."- Aversion.com
"Their self-titled debut effort is beautifully paradoxical: full-hearted yet half-hearted, a cautious joyride where songs teeter between folk-lullaby and melancholy alt-rock, vaguely reminiscent of a lower-fi Pinback."- Performer Magazine
"Their songs are intense, melancholic, warm, intimate, strong, tense and subtle. There is something incredibly impressive with their songwriting; they catch your attention and refuse to give it back."- Derives.net
The pod, as in, well you know, the ipod, well in this case my ipod not the devices as an entire species, was very fond of Travels today. Which is good because it tends to favor the same few songs, Donovan, Louis Armstrong, and Love Battery mostly (all of whom I adore, so don't get me wrong) but sometimes I want to hear some of the other 1000 or so songs. And sometimes I don't know what I'm in the mood for which is why the pod is on shuffle most of the time but today I was very much in the mood for "the Hot Summer" but didn't quite realize it on a conscious level yet the pod somehow knew and played me some songs. Any way this is a longwinded (and for that I apologize) thank you for making wonderful music that I love dearly. -Adam
