Vicki Cain's Interests
|
| General | Anything that makes me think or wonder. Like, why did I see a Norah Jones video being played on CMT? | | Music | Major faves, in no particular order:
David Bowie,
The Beatles,
Billie Holliday,
John Denver,
Neil Diamond,
Jelly Roll Morton,
Gipsy Kings,
Beat Farmers,
All those Minneapolis bands from the 80s/90s,
John Coltrane,
Django Reinhardt,
Lyle Lovett,
Dean Martin,
Billy Joel,
Dolly Parton,
and, of course, Elvis. | | Movies | Dumb and Dumber was one of the best movies ever made! (Admit it. You loved it too.) Rear Window. Wings of Desire. Some Like it Hot. The Royal Tenenbaums. Casablanca. Sunset Boulevard. Blazing Saddles. Road to Utopia. Bull Durham. The Manchurian Candidate (the one with Frank.) The Philadelphia Story. The Untouchables. My Architect. Annie Hall. Waking Ned Devine. Mystery Alaska (it's the Rocky of hockey!) O Brother, Where Art Thou? To Catch a Thief. Road to Morocco. The Jerk, Roxanne, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Bowfinger...now that I think about it, any Steve Martin film works for me. Citizen Kane. Absolute Beginners. Murderball. King Creole. Ocean's 11 (both versions.) All About Eve. Drop Dead Gorgeous. Charade. Dr. Strangelove. White Christmas because I cry every stinkin' time the soldiers come out singing at the end. Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. Fargo. And lots, lots more... | | Television | I only recently got TV again after a 3+ year absence, so I'm still educating myself about current popular culture. I totally dig The Amazing Race, though. Hands down, my favorite TV show of all time is Northern Exposure...or The Sopranos. | | Books | Travels with Charley by John Steinbeck (duh.) I'm in love with Sherlock Holmes. Public Enemies by Bryan Burrough. The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Anything by Lauren Baratz-Logsted (love you, sweetie!) |

Vicki Cain's Blurbs |
About me:
Some people call me "non-conformist," but not surprisingly, I prefer the term "Renaissance woman."
I'm a private pilot, an occasional op/ed writer, a reluctant documentary filmmaker (currently in post-production), a passionate outdoor enthusiast, a perennial music junkie, an avid reader, and a travel buff.
Having spent the majority of my life in Minneapolis, I still feel like it's one of my two homes (the other is Nebraska--Go Huskers!), however, I refuse to move back to the Midwest until global warming heats up the winters by an average of at least 30 degrees. Until then, I'm clinging to one or the other of the more temperate coastal regions--depending on my mood. For now, it's the East Coast.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anyone with a passion for life, a sense of whimsy, or who knew me when I had a perm.
