The Travesties hail from Minneapolis and their sound is a blend of 60's pop, roots-rock, folk-rock, and power-pop - plus whatever else they feel like throwing into the mix that particular day.
The Travesties formed when Mark and Wendy joined Travis for a show in January 2004 at the Terminal Bar. The vibe was good, thus the Travesties were born. Playing a mix of originals written by Mark and Travis, they played their first gig in late March. In April, the Travesties went into the studio with local producer Mike Wisti to record an EP. Playing as a (mostly) acoustic trio, the Travesties performed shows throughout 2004-2005 at venues such as the Uptown Bar, Lee’s, the 400 Bar, and the Kitty Cat Klub.
After a brief hiatus, the Travesties regrouped in 2006 with a new 5-piece lineup (featuring new bassist Brian and new drummer Titus) and a bunch of new songs that Mark and Travis had written over the break. Leaving their acoustic guitars at home, the new-look Travesties played shows around the Twin Cities throughout the summer and fall. Also, they found time to record a new single in Mr. Chris Harrington’s new studio.
After Titus departed to focus on his other projects, Vlad appeared on the scene and promptly was drafted to fill the vacant drum riser. In March the band hit the stage again and has since played shows at the Acadia Café, Station 4, Lee's, and the Fine Line. The Travesties are currently in the process of recording their first full-length LP with Mike Wisti. Look for that in early '08.
