You Wish I Was Channeling Your Spirit is the new record by Phoenix-based musician/motivational speaker Abelardo Gil aka Treasure Mammal. For the past several years, Gil has been spreading his special message of self esteem and physical fitness across the United States and beyond.
When describing the new record, Gil explains, "This album is about community. There is a small distinct community in each of these songs and I feel very fortunate to be graced with the presence of these great performers/musicians on this album. Hooray 4 building community! Put your hands in the middle, wave 'em like you just don't care, step outside the safety zone that you have built yourself, love yourself, take care of the people you love, and live everyday like it was the last!!!".
Using a patchwork of beats for the body, analog synthesizers, and rhymes clearer than Crystal Pepsi, You Wish I Was Channeling Your Spirit speaks to the listener about establishing goals. The only positive addiction in the world of Treasure Mammal is the addiction to over-achieving. Positive life-lessons can be found like hidden gems within each track.

Venezuelan Abelardo Gil’s solo project Treasure Mammal is the soundtrack to your next DMT trip. Collages of noises, samples, and Casio keyboards bubble to the top like some sort of John Zorn or Mike Patton bastard side project. Occasionally as abrasive as Atari Teenage Riot with thickly distorted blast beats and keyboards, Treasure Mammal isn’t afraid to tear down any barrier, exploring new territory seemingly with each song. Drug users be wary, this might be too mindblowing to use as the backdrop to your next heavy trip.

Secret Treasures Album Review
Holy crap. Okay, first off, just let me say that this is easily the weirdest thing I've listened to in years. Freaky, freaky shit. Treasure Mammal appears to be two guys, mad scientist geniuses Abe (guitar, sampler, theremin, drums, and vocals) and Nick (drums, drum machine, guitar, and "sing[ing] about the reservation," according to their Website), and whatever they're smoking, keep it the hell away from me, because it sounds like it might just do permanent damage. Musically speaking, Secret Treasures is all over the map, swinging from ear-shredding electrofuckery and sample thievery ("Intro," "Professional Organizer," "Jesse Spandex," "Bear Claw") to sloppy, Mudhoney-ish rock ("Rio Grande") to the craziest party-funk/soul this side of Har Mar Superstar ("Handlin Business," "Spring Break," "Dance Party").
The weirdest thing about this disc, though, is that, well, I'm still listening. Insane though it certainly is, Treasure Mammal has also somehow wormed its way into my brain, to the point where I can't stop hearing Abe shrieking "Spring Break Oh-Four!" over and over again in my head.
