Trebeka is an international recording artist and business woman. Born and raised in France in a multi-ethnic family rooted in Africa, Asia and Europe, Trebeka grew up as a citizen of the world with a mix who influenced strongly her life, spirituality and music. After building an astonishing reputation as an artist comfortable in all styles and genres, whether singing jazz, neo-soul, or African music, Trebeka has proved herself the choice of demanding audiences and established stars alike.
Trebeka first came to prominence in Paris at the tender age of eighteen. Just two years earlier she had begun singing for local audiences in her hometown of Orléans. But it wasn't long before growing demand for her exceptional sound and charismatic performance style prompted a move to the French capital. Once in Paris the singer appeared regularly with her own ensemble in the city's clubs, festivals and showcases, while in 2001 she enjoyed a five-month spell as resident singer at the luxury Burj Al Arab hotel, Dubai. Meanwhile Trebeka was also in demand as a backing
vocalist for numerous established stars, particularly in the flourishing
African and World music scenes, and for Majors records compagnies like Sony Music, Virgin, Warner or Universal. With a maturity belying her youth, she comfortably rose to the challenge of working with the likes of Sally Nyolo (Zap mama) , Manu Dibango, Djoloff, Khaled, William Balde, Ragga Sonic, Coco M'Bassi, Lulendo, Loïs Andrea, David Charvet, Neg'Marron, Jacky & Benj, Toure Kunda, to name but a few. At the same time, she was regularly called on to support more mainstream artists, such as Catherine Lara, Cheb Mami, Lara Fabian, Pascal Obispo..etc.. During the same period Trebeka continued to work on her own material, with demand for her songwriting talent leading to a publishing contract with Warner Chappell Music France. While moving between styles is, it seems, her trademark, Trebeka's career has also seen her adapt to every conceivable performance situation. A veteran of every major international music festival, the singer is equally at home in an intimate jazz club, a live television broadcast or a recording studio. That she chose to pursue singing is no surprise, since Trebeka comes from a family steeped in musical and performance tradition. Her grandfather, former Ambassador to Cameroon in Washington DC, was as well a popular writer, the author
of “Tante Bella” a classic of the Cameroonian Literature, her Cameroonian father is a guitarist and a vocalist, her Indian-French mother danced professionally for twenty years, while her brother is a tour manager, and her cousins music producers or performers.. As a child, the singer's first creative outings were in fine arts and the
theatre, which helps to explain her ease in front of an audience. She appeared in several French movies including: “ASSASSINS” with Michel Serrault and Mathieu Kassovitz and “SARAKA BO” with Richard Bohringer and Yvan Attal. Later on, Trebeka's flourishing musical career did not prevent her broadening her horizons in other areas. The singer studied Fine Art for two years at “L’Ecole Des Beaux Arts d’Orléans (famous Fine Art School)”, won a drawing competition and got an exibition on her own. She graduated successfully from A.N.A.T.S (sound engineering school), Paris in
2000. Trebeka, also worked as a freelance music journalist for several years. The latter activity saw her writing regularly for the French music press and interviewing such luminaries as MC Solaar, Benjamin Biolay, Juan Rozoff, Ben Harper, Lokua kanza, Oxmo Puccino, Les Nubians, Terri Walker, Erykah Badu, Maxwell...etc...But it wasn't long before her love of music took over and the rest is history. In 2003 she moved to London set up her own nu-jazz band with the best musicians in town, Chris Jerome (Courtney Pine’s pianist), Oroh (Bassist, Corinne Bailey Rae, Courtney Pine, Roots Manuva..) and friends, with guest such as Jason Yarde (Grammy Awards winner, Jack Dejohnette, Keziah Jones, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Soweto Kinch, Julie Dexter, Incognito, Manu Dibango..) and from there started her international ascension.
On tour all over the world with no less than 300 gigs per year, singing all the nu-jazz stuff and bossa nova , in the best venues, International Festivals, Clubs, 5 Stars Hotels, from Beijing to Dubai, Darjeeling, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Santiago de Chile, Bangkok,
Singapore, Vietnam, NYC, Paris, Québec, Yaoundé, Paris or London…etc…
Trebeka had also the opportunity to play on stage with Kenny Garrett (Miles Davis) : “I was on tour in China, with a great jazz trio when Kenny Garrett jumped on the stage and started to play with us, we were just stunned to see this amazing musician coming and enjoying a jam with us.
After that, Kenny came back almost every night to see my show, we had a good chat and he gave me a lot of great advises” said
Trebeka.
In 2007, Trebeka went on tour for the first time in South America with the Pancho Aranda Jazz Group. Totally unknown when she arrived, she generated a huge “buzz”, acclaimed and supported by the medias, she appeared on all the newspapers, magazines, TV & radio programs in Chile and established herself as a well known and respected vocalist in the region…
In 2008, during her tour in Japan, she performed with renowned Japanese pianist Choko Kimura.
After playing all over the planet since almost 4 years, a CD
became quickly a necessity: "After my gig, people were always asking me if I had a CD, that's how i realised i needed to do a recording who could match the music i was playing on stage every night" said Trebeka. She contacted her friend, Lonnie Plaxico, emblematic jazz figure, Grammy awards winner and genius musician well known for his work with Cassandra Wilson, Jack Dejohnette or Art Blakey, who put all together and in february 2008 "Willow Weep For Me" (title of the CD and song dedicated to her friend Barbara Figueroa Rodriguez., who died tragically in 2007) was born. “Willow Weep For Me” has already been played in around 50 radios in the United States, Canada, Japan, South America…
With this CD, Trebeka and her music mates definitely prove than great songs never age especially when they are updated so brilliantly by this All Stars Band. Trebeka (Vocals), Lonnie Plaxico (Music Director/ Upright Bass and Cello) Marvin Sewell (Guitar), George Colligan (Piano & Fender Rhodes) and Kenny Grohowski (Drums).
But Trebeka is first of all a real artist and a song writer. Trebeka has been a Warner Chappell Music’s author for four years, mainly because of her song writing skills and her easiness to create catchy melodies. Trebeka is now working on her own material, with her team, some great collaborations and music producers based in the States. “This album won’t be a jazz album even if the jazz flavour will remind, but a mixture of my musical influences, between Soul-Jazz and ethnic/roots music. I’am not a former jazz singer even if I always listened to this music, my musical background and feeling are soul, African and ethnic music. I grew up in a multi-ethnic family, I feel a part of all those cultures, and my music will look exactly like me”.

Trebeka es una artista internacional y una empresaria. Nacida en Francia en una familia de gran diversidad étnica con raíces en África, Asia y Europa, Trebeka creció como una ciudadana del mundo cuya variedad de orígenes tuvo gran influencia en su vida, en su espiritualidad, y en su música. Tras construirse una admirable reputación como artista cómoda en todos los estilos y géneros cantando jazz, nuevo soul, o música africana, Trebeka ha demostrado su valía tanto al público más exigente
como a las estrellas consolidadas. Trebeka comenzó a despuntar a la edad de dieciocho años en París. Dos años antes había empezado a cantar para la audiencia local en su tierra natal, Orleáns. Pero pronto la creciente demanda de su sonido excepcional y carismático estilo interpretativo propiciaron un paso adelante rumbo a la capital francesa.
Una vez en París la cantante actuó regularmente con su propia orquesta en los clubs de jazz de la ciudad, festivales y espectáculos, y en el año 2001 pasó un período de cinco meses como cantante residente en el hotel de lujo Burj Al Arab, en Dubai. Trebeka continuó trabajando en la producción de su propio material, y su talento en la composición de canciones la llevó a firmar un contrato con la Warner Chappell Music en Francia.
Si bien moverse entre diversos estilos es su sello distintivo, a lo largo de su trayectoria Trebeka se ha adaptado a todas las situaciones interpretativas posibles. Ya veterana en diversos festivales de jazz, esta cantante se siente en casa ya esté en un íntimo club de jazz, en un directo en televisión, o en un estudio de grabación. Su abuelo, ex embajador de Camerún en Washington, fue también un escritor popular, el autor de “Tante Bella”, un clásico de la literatura camerunesa; su padre, camerunés, guitarrista y cantante, y su madre, francesa de origen indio, fue bailarina profesional durante veinte años; su hermano es manager y sus primos músicos e intérpretes. Cuando era niña, sus primeras incursiones creativas tuvieron lugar en el campo de las bellas artes y el teatro, lo que explica su desenvoltura ante el gran público. Apareció en varias películas francesas incluyendo “ASSASSINS” con Michel Serrault y Mathieu Kassovitz y “SARAKA BO” con Richard Bohringer y Yvan Attal. Más adelante, su brillante carrera musical no le impidió aventurarse en otras disciplinas artísticas. Aquí comenzó su reconocimiento internacional. De gira por todo el mundo con no menos de 300 actuaciones al año,
canta jazz y bossa nova en los mejores escenarios, festivales internacionales, clubs, y hoteles de cinco estrellas desde Beijing a Dubai, Darjeeling, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Santiago de Chile, Bangkok, Singapur, Vietnam, Nueva York, París, Québec, Yaoundé, o Londres.
Trebeka también ha tenido la ocasión de tocar en directo con Kenny Garrett (Miles Davis): “Estaba de gira en China con un espléndido trío de jazz cuando Kenny Garrett saltó al escenario y empezó a acompañarnos a la música, estábamos simplemente atónitos de ver a este gran músico disfrutando con nosotros de la actuación. Después de esto, Kenny regresó casi todas las noches a ver nuestras actuaciones, charlamos a menudo y me dio grandes consejos profesionales”, dijo Trebeka.
En el 2007, Trebeka viajó por primera vez a América Latina con Pancho Aranda Jazz Group. Totalmente desconocida cuando llegó, generó un gran revuelo al ser aclamada por todos los medios de comunicación; apareció en todos los periódicos, revistas y programas de radio y televisión en Chile y se consolidó como una conocida y respetada intérprete en el país. En el 2008, durante su gira por Japón, actuó con el célebre pianista japonés Choko Kimura. Tras actuar por todo el planeta durante casi cuatro años, editar un CD se convirtió en una necesidad. “Después de mis actuaciones, el público me preguntaba si tenía algún CD, así me di cuenta de que necesitaba realizar una grabación en consonancia con mis directos”, dijo Trebeka. Contactó con su amigo Lonnie Plaxico, emblemática figura del jazz, ganador de un Grammy y músico genial conocido por su trabajo con Cassandra Wilson, Jack Dejohnette o Art Blakey, quien recopiló el trabajo de Trebeka dando como resultado el CD "Willow Weep For Me" (“Sauce llora por mí”), publicado en febrero del 2008. El título del CD y la canción del mismo nombre están dedicados a su amiga Bárbara Figueroa Rodríguez, fallecida en trágicas circunstancias en el año 2007. “Willow Weep For Me” ha
sonado en cerca de 50 radios en Estados Unidos, Canadá, Japón, y América Latina.
Con este CD, Trebeka y sus músicos prueban definitivamente que las grandes canciones no envejecen, especialmente cuando son adaptadas tan brillantemente por esta All Stars Band.
