Moonchild 11-year-old female
Beautiful Moonchild lives in the Programs Office at our Uptown branch, where she is on a wet food only diet to help control her diabetes. Moonchild is a slightly sassy, but wonderfully affectionate girl. She spends most of her time just lounging in her favorite basket or on top of her cat tree. While Moonchild loves people she is a little pickier when it comes to her fellow felines. She is an alpha female and makes sure the other cats know that; she accepts calm, easy going male cats who respect her space. After her roommate was adopted Moonchild seemed to get a little depressed and lonely. So, despite her best efforts to make us think otherwise, it appears Moonchild enjoys the company of other cats--as long as they know their place and don't try to snuggle. Moonchild is currently receiving insulin twice a day. Please speak with someone from the Adoptions Department or Clinic if you have any further questions about Moonchild's diabetes.

Punkinhead 11-year-old female
Sweet little Punkinhead is so very confused by shelter life. She is so overwhelmed by all the other cats and constant activity the shelter that she crouches close to the ground and darts between hiding places. She recently braved an excursion to the reception room, where she discovered the joy of sleeping on a cat tree, watching the pigeons and basking in the sunshine. Punkinhead is too nervous to approach people for attention but if you approach her and extend your hand she perks right up and rolls around, reveling in the attention. She gives you the saddest eyes if you stop petting and walk away. Punkinhead would do amazing in a quiet home of her own. She would be eternally grateful to whomever gives her a second chance. Even though she is a slightly older girl Punkinhead is very healthy. Please consider adopting this middle-aged lady and letting her live our her senior years in a home of her own.

Tree House Humane Society is working on some much needed updates! Posted at 7:54 PM May 19 view more
We were founded in 1971 when a group of families in the Chicagoland area united to form an organized network of animal welfare agents. The network grew rapidly, and by 1975 the founders legally incorporated as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, and purchased the property at 1212 West Carmen Avenue . A national audience was developed through educational brochures and pamphlets that helped to explain dog and cat behavior. Tree House gained a reputation for offering valuable advice on animal healthcare, lost pets, and household dangers.
In 1989, we expanded the physical structure of the facility, almost doubling the size of the shelter to continually accept and care for more stray cats. In 2000, we remodeled our attic to make a Socialization Room for feral cats, and we were also named First Place winners of the Humane Association Award offered by the Chicago Veterinary Medicine Association. Tree House Animal Foundation is the largest cageless, no-kill shelter for injured, sick and abandoned cats in the Chicagoland area. Since its founding Tree House has found homes for more than 14,000 “residents.” Tree House provides a safe haven for feral, stray, abused, neglected, and/or critically injured felines. Additionally, we performed over 500 spays and neuters, and we are on a pace to double that number in this year.
Adopt!
Trained adoption counselors interview prospective adopters Monday-Friday 12-8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12-6 p.m . You do not need an appointment, but if you'd like to email or call our counselors in advance, go ahead! They are more than happy to answer any questions you may have about adopting or about specific cats we have at the shelter. You can reach them via email here or call (773) 784-5488.
Volunteer!
Housing 300 cats is a huge responsibility - finding the opportunity to spend quality time with each and every one of them is even more difficult. Like many non-profit organizations, volunteers are an integral part of our shelter, and we rely heavily on their support and hard work. Tree House is accepting volunteers for both of our locations (UPTOWN and BUCKTOWN). Volunteer hours are anytime between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. There are also late-night volunteer opportunities on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 9 p.m.
To become a Tree House volunteer, simply send us an email and our Volunteer Staff will contact you to schedule an interview. Email Volunteer or call (773) 784-5488 ext. 228.

Hope you have a GREAT Halloween. I used Isabella, a hearing service Chihuahua, that I had the pleasure of photographing the beginning of the summer. This pic of her didn't make it into her portfolio...but I thought her expression for this Halloween tag was priceless!

I'm always asked the question "How can I help?" One easy way to contribute is to visit one of my favorite websites. www.TheAnimalRescueSite.com. Their sponsors donate food to shelter animals every time you click! Its easy, quick and free. But don't forget them on the weekends, their numbers really go down Fri-Sun.
Thanks again for supporting us and welcome to OVFA!
Urgent! A ban on Pitbulls in Highland Park, IL to be scheduled this Monday, May 11th.
"These are mercurial dogs, they are unpredictable and they are lethal," Mayor Belsky said. "I think we need to lead by example here, and maybe other communities will follow suit and create a groundswell, like the smoking ban."
Please email the Highland Park City Council. You can copy and paste the emails below
We wondered how our cat Cuchuliann was able to get the modeling gig for your place! He and his sister Queen Maeve "Share The Condo" with two other sisters, Chaos and Mayhem, who live up to their names, but are still cute.. Thanks for all you do and thanks for the add, Karen and Patrick
The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hillside's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven -
All's right with the world!
