About me:
Our mission is to improve people’s lives by helping communities protect, conserve and manage the natural resources upon which their long-term well-being depends. Our programs are guided by two core beliefs:
• That natural resources are best protected when local people play an active role in their care and management; and
• That preserving local trees, wetlands, and watersheds is essential for the ongoing social, economic, and environmental health of communities everywhere.
Areas of Focus:
• TWP has planted trees locally in Larimer County, Colorado, since 1998, bringing together youth, local businesses and other community members to make Fort Collins and Larimer County a better place. Our new Clean Energy Program brings renewable energy education to local schools through the SunMobile, while the “Renewables on Schools” works to install renewable energy sources at local schools.
• Nationally, TWP builds and installs supplemental solar heaters for families on Native American reservations. TWP also works with reservation communities, planting windbreak and shade trees around homes.
• TWP has created the Protecting the Water of the Arid West (PWAW) program, to support numerous grassroots watershed organizations in Colorado, Utah and Montana in response to issues of erosion, pollution and water scarcity.
• Internationally, TWP and our local partners have worked to save forests in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, and now Haiti by providing more than 23,000 families with fuel-efficient stoves that each use up to 70% less wood.
• Since 1998, TWP has helped grow and plant almost two million trees in Central America through our locally run community reforestation projects for sustainable forest products.
• Trees, Water & People was founded in 1998 and has received the Ashden Award for Renewable Energy, as well as awards from Kodak, The Conservation Fund, and etown, while TWP's programs have been featured on National Geographic Television, National Public Radio and in The Christian Science Monitor.
