Trent Westbrook's Interests
General
Reading, writing, drawing and other types of art, music, film, exercise, video games... I am a collector of vintage vinyl records, fossils, comic books, screen used movie props and prop replicas, as well as vintage toy lines primarily from the 80's. I like to go to hockey and baseball games in my hometown.
Music
Industrial. 80's Goth and new wave. The "alternative" era from the late 80's to the early 90's.
Movies
Star Wars, Jaws, The Lord of the Rings, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Blade Runner, The Crow, Batman Begins, primarily a lot of sci-fi, comic book and fantasy films.
Television
I don't watch a lot of television, most of it just does not appeal to me; but there are some series present and in the past that I like to follow or watch re-runs on DVD sets, my favorites being: 24. The X-Files. Twin Peaks.
Books
The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway. The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien. Watership Down by Richard Adams. Dune by Frank Herbert. The work of Jeph Loeb and early Frank Miller on the Batman comics. Edgar Allan Poe.
Heroes
I wouldn't say I have "heroes" for to me that implies "hero worship"; but there are people that I look up to or appreciate what they have done, particularly in the case of charity work. Be sure to check out the following charities if you are looking for a charity to endorse:
About me: My name is Trent Westbrook. I am a freelance artist and illustrator living in Corpus Christi, Texas. My work is primarily pencil and ink work; I work primarily by commissions and had some of my art published last September, 2007 in a poetry book entitled, "A Life of Ravens" by Alex Ness. Currently I'm slated to work on two separate comic books projects for 2008 as well as personal projects and small commissions, including the inking of other artist's pencil work. Outside of being an illustrator, I like to spend my free time with family and friends, reading, watching movies, and dabbling in my hobbies.
Who I'd like to meet: I like meeting other artists and illustrators, to talk shop and maybe even work together. And of course it is always fun to meet people who just have similar interests. I had the pleasure of meeting James O'Barr, creator of "The Crow" comic, here in Corpus Christi in 2005. He gave me many tips and advice on how to improve my art at that time and personally critiqued my art. I wouldn't mind running into him again to show him how I have improved since. I wouldn't mind meeting the musician Tori Amos in person as she is the founder of a charity that I like to sponsor, RAINN.ORG.
