Sounds Like
Nothing you have ever heard before.
We sort of have a mixture of styles, as stated in out bio, we were originally aimed at 7 - 11 age group, so naturally we have gained a more upbeat style to worship (as a result of this we were called 'very good but very loud' by a leader of our church, much to our amusement) however we are begining to explore different depths of leading worship, and are aiming to lead worship at an infusion meeting at some point. What we are really saying is that there is not any individual/band that we particularly sound like. But we take parts from a number of different inspirations.
In the autumn months of 2005 Joe Hardy travelled the land in search of the finest musicians to start a band with him and his curly hair - he failed - but what he did assemble was a dodgy worship band comprised of Joe and Pete on vocals and acoustic guitar - Chris Moore on drums - Dan Bramley on Keyboard and Nick Hogben on Bass guitar (that's right - bass). The band led worship for the children in the 7-11's group during their sunday morning at church.
It soon became apparent to Nick that Bass wasn't his forte so he switched to his primary instrument - electric guitar, now that 6 string bass legend Josh Hart was now available to join the band that would later become Third Wheel.
The guys continued to progress through to new oppurtunities and would often find themselves counting the blessings God bestowed upon them.
outside of leading worship, the band has a seemingly alter ego - a hyperactice, Psycadelic Rock band, writing music swaying between the Epic orchestral backing of intro-6/8 to the improvised Scat vocals of funky disco.
Having played at Infusion and festivals such as Nth fest and... that one at Mudford Rec, they're fan base is every growing and coming from distant mysterious continents to witness Nick's Psycadelic Solo's or Dan's Epic Shreds or to cry with delight at the Illegality of Josh's Bass. Some come from unchartered Islands simply to have the oppurtunity to pass out while admiring the Creativity of Chris' drumming. to be honest most just come to see Joe.
so there's the past and present of the band - oo but isnt the future exciting!!
anyway here is a brief summary of each member of the band in greater detail.
Joe (19) - Over the past year or so Joe has become so much more spiritually in tune with God, This allows the band to literally be led by god's will - whether it be playing quiet songs when appropriate and fast lively songs when appropriate or whether it be repeating a verse, chorus or line to emphasise its meaning. The vast improvement in Joe's confidence since the band started is now clearly recognisable by his now amazing Lead vocals (people are often heard saying - "that was you?? i though it was a CD"). He also has a big car. and funny hair. Joe is now an urban warrior -This means serving the people of the town of yeovil and learning more about God 24/7. He is an amazing Chap.
Pete (20)- he also plays the guitar, needing no more knowledge than how to play 12 different chords. He is an amusing character and does a real good popeye impression. He is currently studying to become an engineer/mechanic or something macho like that. he also has a car which, though it lacks in size, is similarly cool - matching the personality of the chap himself. Pete has clearly become more confident also
Nick (17)- he plays electric guitar and adds progressive complicated elements to the songs that the band write. He is and aspiring Musician and thus helps bring musical knowledge to the band. Nick's guitar playing is greatly inspired by Dream Theater guitarist, John Petrucci and is beginning to take influence from solo guitarist - Joe Satriani . Nick enjoys Dream Theater's style of music because it is far from easy and while some say it is over complicated nick believes that is simply evidence to the fact that they are the most talented band alive. Nick likes to try to complicate his playing and even when forced to play chords in quiter songs, he manages to play note by note variations based on major, minor, chromatic, pentatonic or Modal scales and of course the shape of the chord itself. Having been brought into the life of an actor in earlier life by the inspiration of his two brothers he has gained a wide vocal range and confidence on stage, though recently he believes his vocal talent is beginning to diminish. Nick is the one of the vocalists of this band who provides harmonies/ octave higher singing or helps to increase the volume of the vocals all together. Nick wants to be a musician when he grows up. Ideally he would love to be in a succesful band with his best friends - putting messages across to nations, doing God's will, having fun and making a living at the same time. his weakness is the clarinet
Dan (18)- Dan is another aspiring musician, having been brought up into a life of orchestra and playing instruments such as the clarinet, the piano and the recorder. His recently born passion for piano was developed upon falling in love with the band, Dream Theater, and their keyboard player, Jordan Rudess. It has allowed Dan to search new areas of piano playing and musical styles. He now is never restricted to chords and is often noticed going crazy improvising on the higher notes of his keyboard in the middle of worship sessions. His Keyboard technique, finger speed and other such things have all rapidly improved in the short space of time that is a year and a half. Other Band members are astounded by how he does some of the things that he does. He brings a beautiful melodious style to the band but always needs to be a little bit louder. When he grows up he wants to be a Nerd or a Musician - similar to Nick - putting messages across to nations, doing God's will, having fun and making a living at the same time. However deep in his heart all Dan wants to do is be an epic hero who goes on quests fighting to save the world with his favourite hero - Ashitaka (fun fact - His Keyboard is named after this hero) and or Nick and Chris. His favourite words include "punch", "crush" and "chain"
Chris (18)- Chris has been playing drums for over a third of his life and was recognised as the best drummer at his school, having moved to a music specialising seciton of college - the challenge for the title is almost impossible to get because at this stage all musicians have such different styles, its impossible to compare them. His drum kit is always growing and he has spent almost £1500 on his current kit, considering he bought it at £600 thats quite impressive. Also a fan of Dream Theater, he likes to complicate his music even if its for no other reason than to make it more fun to play. His Crazy drumming often astounds other band members and fans of Dream Theater will be able to clearly see he his greatly influenced by the legendary Mike Portnoy - recently awarded the title of "best Drummer" ever by Rythm magazine. Chris is a greatly loved character by all..... His drumming makes worship more emotional - whether it be making music more energetic and helping people feel more excited in lively songs or whether it be bringing out the emotion in slower songs helping people to stand in God's presence. Chris wants to be a in a band with his best friends to put messages across to nations, do God's will, have fun and make a living at the same time. One of his life goals is to be put into the Modern Drummer hall of fame with some of the (other) best drummers of all time. Chris undoubtedly has the talent to achieve this goal.
Josh (17)- Josh was asked to join when Nick wanted to switch from Bass guitar to lead guitar and achieve his potential in worship. Josh certainly became comfortable with the bands styles straight away and provided a much greater talent and originality than the YCC youth band's previous bass player. Since discovering Dream Theater also, he has explored more complicated ways of playing music and increasing his musical potential. Having also been brought up with an acting life he has too grown to having a wide vocal range and great stage confidence. This allows him to also provide harmonious vocals and improve the vocal sound in general. He is unsure whether to persue and Acting career or a musical career at this stage. Josh is a very special chap and is a bit of a legend. After all the Legendary Shu is not only a man but a Chinese army from around 200AD and Part of A Legendary powerful Dragon which grants one of his commanders wishes, not only that but he is also the worlds favourite form of footwear.
