Hello all! My name is Steve Nall and I run Tretslip Productions, an audio engineering production company in Lexington, KY. I am also the head engineer at Long Island Studios in Lexington, and this is where I base myself for all my projects.
I have been in the audio engineering business since the early Ninties, eventually getting my certification in 1995. Working from the bottom up (as it is in this business), I go-fer'ed and/or assisted at the House Of Blues Studios (formerly known as Kiva Studios) in Memphis, TN and Rumbo Recorders in Canoga Park, CA before coming back to KY in 1999. Since then I've been firmly planted at Long Island, and I've watched the studio go from one room with a 16 track 1/2" analog tape machine to a three studio complex!
I have been known to mix the random live show or other local studio, but only if the gear is there and if it'll fit into my schedule. This is solely for the fact that since I am mainly a studio engineer, I don't have the gear needed to pull it off.
My main musical love will always be Hard Rock/Metal music and since being back in Lexington, I've had the privilage to work with many great bands. Of course, since I am in KY, I've also worked on my share of Country and Gospel projects. A sampling of the artists/bands I have engineered, mixed or produced (or all 3!) are:
TONY STONE (E/M)
JODY CONLEY (E/M/P)
THE BARKLEY FAMILY (E/M)
THE SAMMONS FAMILY (E/M)
MARK BRYER (E/M)
CHORD OF THREE (E/M) THE MASTERS TRIO (E/M/P)
HUNTER ASHLEY (E)
BOBBY LACER (E)
Scott Burns, Mutt Lange, Bob Rock, Rick Rubin, Ted Templeman, Jeff Lynne, Toby Wright, Terry Date, George Martin, Allen Parsons, Steve Albini, Martin Birch, Ron Nevison and ALL THE GREAT ENGINEERS AND PRODUCERS
Sounds Like
No matter what type of music you play, my goal is to make you sound like YOU...only better!!
CHECK OUT Check out these other great bands I've worked with!!
The STUDIO A live room at Long Island Studios
Studio A of Long Island Studios has a nice large wood floored live room and separate drum, vocal and amp isolation booths with a control room big enough for a 5 or 6 piece band to be comfortable in. To record, we use a Pro Tools HD2 rig with 192 voices/tracks thru a Sony DMX-R100 fully automated digital 48 channel mixer. The board has Sony pro series compressors, eq's and gates, and we also have some great compressor plug-ins including Focusrite and Joe Meek, EQ's by Pultec, Joe Meek and Focusrite, and we also employ various EQ's and frequency specific compressors from the Waves Platinum series of plug-in's.
For amplification, we offer various amplifiers by Fender, Peavey, Crate, Roland, Vox and Marshall as well as the Sans-Amp 21 plug-in and the Line 6 Amp Farm amplifier simulator.
For miking, we use Audio Technica, Neumann, Shure, EV, AKG, Peavey, and Marshall microphones to name just a few. For an up-to-date listing of all of our gear, click HERE.
Each song is burned to CD seperately on an external unit that has overall eq and limiting if the project isn't going to be properly mastered. I upload the full compilation of the 2 track final mixes as AIFF files to a master disc, so there's no added compression in the transfer like during CD to MP3 conversions.
The Sony DMX-R100 in Long Island Studios STUDIO A
If you or your band would like to enlist me to track or mix your next project, my fee outside of LIS is $10 an hour (+ gas if you're recording outside the Lexington/Richmond, KY area). If you would like me to be the producer as well, it's $25, since there is much more time and energy involved. This, of course, is on top of whatever the studio of your choice is charging. At Long Island, since I work there, I come with the session and the price is whatever you and the company agree on (there are full day rates and full album rates as well as hourly). My Monday thru Friday schedule keeps me at LIS until 7pm, so any sessions outside our studios would have to either start @8 or be on the weekends.
The songs on the page will be added to semi-regularly, so if you like what you hear, drop me a line and let's make some music!!
**DISCLAIMER**
The links on the page go to the bands' myspace pages, but I don't want to take credit for the songs on their pages. In some cases, The songs on the bands' jukeboxes were recorded and/or mixed by other engineers and it wouldn't be right to make you believe that the work was mine. From time to time the song(s) on the band pages and mine will be the same but different recordings and mixes as well. This is not any kind of disrespect to the engineers and producers involved with their mixes. This page is solely set up to showcase my abilities and to possibly give you a "heads up" on a few bands you may not know of in a multitude of genres.
With that said, I strongly encourage you to click on the links and check out all the bands on my client list. The music on this site will change every few weeks, so keep checking back for new artists!!!
THANKS FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP !!! I have online 2 songs from the new Holy Moses album "Agony of Death". They are "World in Darkness" and "Bloodbound of the damned"
