“In all of the many melodic dimensions of his songcraft, Trevor has conquered a timeless style and pronounced pop sensibility…. His music in the confines of an intmate venue truly soars and connects, yet somehow it is easy to see how someday it may translate into a stadium setting….and I think someday you may well see him there” - IMPRINT Magazine
Known as the small guy with a big voice within his circle of musical peers, Trevor Norris is a singer-songwriter on the verge of finally finding his niche. Born in Waterloo, Ontario, Trevor’s musical roots are as diverse and eclectic as his ability to transform his many influences into songs filled with intriguing hooks and melodies. Unable to garner simple comparisons from fans and critics, Trevor’s accessiblility lies in his powerfully soulful and most of all, original voice. Growing up on a steady diet of bands like The Pixies, The Smiths, Janes Addiction, The Jam, and The Beatles, Trevor began writing songs at the tender age of sixteen and formed his first band on the eve of the 90’s British Invasion. In highschool and into university, Trevor fronted bands in the Kitchener-Waterloo area that dominated the local scene filled with rich talent such as the Minitures, Shannon Lyon, and Danny Michel. Working nights as a engineer at a local studio to pay for his schooling, Trevor was able to self-produce, recorded and release three separate albums all the while honing his valuable engineering skills.
After moving to Toronto in 2000, Trevor spend several years as co-writer/lead-singer of Nine Mile releasing the album "Run" and touring extensively.
An amicable split with Nine Mile at the end of 2002 saw Trevor reclaim his singular voice and vision. “I love collaborating with people musically, it really pushes you to find a balance between compromise and reinvention”. “Nine mile was a great experience and Dari and I will always work together in some fashion, but I was writing songs that would have never seen the light of day under the direction the band was headed…and at the end of the day the most important thing to me is my identity as a songwriter.” Trevor enlisted the help of Producer/Engineer Brian Moncarz (Pilate, The Junction) to record the initial tracks and songs for his first independent solo release. However, Trevor shelved the recording in early 2005 and begin testing new material and new direction in a series of shows which saw him headlining dozens of solo acoustic shows in some of Toronto’s primier venues and opening for the likes of Andy Stochansky.
With new songs in hand, Trevor enlisted the help of friends, the rhythm section (Ryan Gassi on drums and Frank Guidoccio on bass) of local “buzz” band Memory Bank to fuse a style and lay foundation on the fully self-produced and self-engineered effort. Although writing went slow at first, his songs started taking shape and he sheds light on the method behind the madness, “When I sit down to write, it’s never a conscious process. There is always a reactionary quality that seems to find it’s way into my songs. In a way I write as if I’m playing along to a movie of these heavy moments and significant events in my life… reliving those emotions and feelings at the heart of it and translating it into a melody, lyric and eventually a complete song.” He adds, “I see my music less as pop songs but as snapshots of my life in soundtrack form. I have always been drawn to music that has invoked some sort of powerful emotion whether it be the melody or message and I love that those songs/albums have imprinted themselves on me and become that soundtrack to events over my life. This record is essentially a soundtrack to the events of my life over the past two years… My big hope and and I guess the ultimate compliment would be for one of my songs to reach someone and define an event or moment in their life.”
With an official album release date set for November 5th at the Rivoli in Toronto, Trevor stands poised take the country by storm and tour in support of the album. Watch your local listings for CD Release shows in a city near you or log on to www.trevornorrismusic.com for regular news and updates.
