After moving to Austin five years ago from various parts of Texas, Trey began writing music that we call "Texas Country"... influenced by musicians such as Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Randy Rogers, Reckless Kelly and Cross Canadian Ragweed. By late 2005, Trey began playing solo acoustic sets at the Velvet Spade(now, the Mohawk) on Monday nights. Set up by Kevin Malone, the theme was "Mondays with Malone" and there was guaranteed to be live music, beer and BBQ. Then he started opening solo for his friends of the Nowhere Texas band at the Spade on Tuesday nights. In February of 2006, he met John Jammal (drums) and Thad Bergstrom (bass) and started working to form the band. In April 2006, the band made their debut at the Velvet Spade and continued to play there weekly. It was there that the band released their first demo, which was untitled.
That July, the band finally found the perfect sound in longtime Austin musician Jeff Thomas, who joined the group on lead guitar. It was at that same time that the band began playing weekly at the Dizzy Rooster... and continued to play there for a year. In the fall of 2006, the extremely talented Melissa Becker joined the group on the fiddle for a short time and was part of the band when they decided to get back in the studio and record. The songs you hear are from their latest demo Drinking Irresponsibly that was finished in November of 2006 at Figment Studios in Austin. At present, the band is made up of three of its original members: Trey Stapleton, John Jammal and Jeff Thomas... and Conor Brown has now taken over duties on the bass guitar. It has been almost a year since their last demo, but a recent live recording at Shakespeare's Pub will soon be released on CD and the band is schedule to get back into the studio to record their first full length album in Mid-2008. If you'd like to see the Trey Stapleton Band live, you can find out where they will be playing on the show schedule above. The goal is simple... bring out the best of the country greats as well as the style of the newer "Texas Country" sound to come up with original Texas Music. So if you like cold beer and Texas, come out and join us for a lot of laughin', a little cryin', and a whole lot of drinkin'!
