SOUNDPAINTING is the universal live composing sign language created by New York composer Walter Thompson for musicians, dancers, actors, poets, and visual artists working in the medium of structured improvisation.
So what does all that mean?
Triangle Soundpainting Orchestra performs genre defying feats of musical acrobatic genius for your listening pleasure. We are "conducted" by someone in front of the orchestra using some very strange sign language...in other words, the "soundpainter" is the person up front making funny signs which inspire the rest of the orchestra to make the sounds they choose to make at any given moment. Anything you hear us play is being composed and performed as you watch and listen!
The Triangle Soundpainting Orchestra was created in 2007 under the direction of percussionist/soundpainter Shannon Morrow. The soundpaintings on our page are our most recent "sketches" from July 08.
