Tribali are a group of Maltese musicians who came together to celebrate their love of world music. Whilst placing great emphasis on ethnic rhythms, tribali incorporate the beauty and pathos of music from the orient.
The eclectic musical influences of the band include amongst others, world music, reggae, pop, rock, classical and jazz of which they channel into their unique sound. Their diverse use of instruments embraces percussion, flute, guitar and sitar to name a few, whilst the accompanying vocals complete the whole sonic vibe. A powerful stage presence is further energized by their use of visuals thus dramatically stimulating the audience.
Releasing their debut album in May 2006, they secured their position as Malta's leading artists by charting and sustaining the number one position for several months. Consistently selling out shows, the band has headlined major festivals and parties within Malta including: The Farsons Great Beer Festival, Indifest, Echofest, XFM Festival and Notte Bianca. They also played alongside the legendary Wailers.
Tribali were instrumental in the production of the hugely successful Earth Garden festival which was held in May 2007. A two day explosion of music, art and drama which included the cream of local music talent of which Tribali headed.
Tribali's first introduction to the international scene was at Glastonbury Festival 2007 playing in the historic 'Green Fields' with their later jamming session being featured on CNN. They came to the attention of the renowned DJ, DJ Ritu who interviewed them for a one hour special on her BBC London show which was aired in September 2007.
Tribali have been offered a worldwide digital distribution deal with Petrol Records USA/Australia and played three shows at the prestigious 'East Coast Blues & Roots Music Festival' in Byron Bay, NSW, Australia in March 2008. They were featured in the 'Songlines' magazine after being chosen to be part in 'The Rough Guide to Indian Lounge Compilation' released in September 2007, supported by Rough Guides Logo. They have also been chosen, one of 18 acts, to be part of the promo album through Sonicbids for 'Sonicbids Listen Volume 4 (proceeds to benefit The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation)'.
The year 2008 saw the band performing at the Gozo Music Festival and a record jam-packed show at the Farsons Great Beer Festival. It was during this time that the band immersed themselves into the production of their new album titled 'The Elephants of Lanka', released in April 2009.
Tribali's first live performance for 2009 was at the EarthGarden Festival, which turned out to be a sold out event! Their latest performance was in June with international superstar Moby, wrapping up the line up for Cream Live 2009 in Gianpula Fields.
