Between magic and technology. Between sacred and profane. Between society and solitude pave their way Tribes of the City from Riga.
Tribes of the City are six musicians coming from different backgrounds and carrying different world views, yet by holding together they manage to create a sensational sounding, which carries the listener away to their imaginary world.
Their latest album called "for the sleepy people" is created in close co-operation with British sound producer Greg Haver, who is known by his work with such bands as Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals and Catatonia.
"for the sleepy people" is the second album in band's discography. Their first record - "Running to the Sun" was produced in Denmark in 2004. Back then Baltic musical press already called it "European-scale event".
One can find in their music the rumbling of sea and noise of the city, murmur of the forest and crackle of electricity. People refer to them as modern shoegazers and mention the special energy of their live performances.

We are very proud to announce, that Monocular s "Water Shape EP" is available at your favorite Online-Store now.
Containing the single "Water Shape" from the forthcoming album "Somewhere On The Line" (April 03, 2009 VierSieben Records/Alive) and three non-album tracks ("Consequence", "To Admire The Life", "Ravenclaw"), it is definitely a must have for all fans of filigree and athmospheric electrosounds.
Where bands like Lamb or Frou Frou left a gap in the late 90s and early 21st century, Monocular redefined the sound and set new standards in developing their complex music by connecting charismatic vocals with entrancing soundscapes.
Mrs. Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs. Gowanus, this bar will be forever ours
Why did you have to leave us so soon?
It couldn’t have been the right time
It couldn’t have been so soon
Mrs. Gowanus, the lines between us are so fine
What secrets do you hide?
What futures can you tell me?
Looking into the cup you hold
Mrs. Gowanus, are you really so old,
That you alone know,
When the truth becomes lies,
Through the passage of time?
Mrs. Gowanus, why are you singing to the stones?
Do they tell you what you need to know?
Our seats are so far away
Mrs. Gowanus, the line between us is so fine
What makes people act the way they do?
Mrs. Gowanus, are we really losing you?
Great concert in Vilnius, you are 1 of mine favorite and your new album is as good for dreaming as for listening in the gym, while training. I cant' stop listening to it :) and your sound evolves that's very nice to find out (a bit of Sonic Youth added or smth. else?) Keep on doing what you are doing, paldies and iki.
