Tricky Pixie combines the witchy musical talents of three well-loved Pacific Northwest performers, and the worlds of folklore, music, and fandom may never be the same.
Take three strong songwriters who happen also to be wild, sexy, irreverent, spot-on performers. Add shipfuls of pirates, satyrs dancing, gypsies in the wood, and all the benefits of a good Beltane fire, plus the spice of an alligator tango: all of this together will show you the barest glimpse of the magic that is Tricky Pixie.
The band’s sound ranges from Celtic rock, spiced with fiddle and stirred with cello, to sweetly sung circus lullabies that lead into roaring war songs, riding on the sound of drums. This is contagious faery magic, and you’re bound to be caught in the spell if you attend a Tricky Pixie concert.
Here’s what fans and friends are saying:
"The Tricky Pixie concert at Soul Food Books tonight exceeded my already
high expectations. Just the SOUND that these three amazing performers
have when they do a song together is enough to make angels, devils, and
bodhisattvas weep. All three members of the group shared the stage
beautifully, and the energy and chemistry of this new group bodes very well
for their future. They were having a hell of a lot of fun, and bringing their
audience along for the ride. The Faerie Worlds Festival is not going to know
what hit it."
-Kelley Crow
"Tonight was Tricky Pixie’s first concert. This wasn’t just the kind of ’good’
you get when you put some skilled musicians together. This was ’I don’t know if
I’ve ever seen such fantastic synergy’ good."
--Damiana
"OMG, go see Tricky Pixie. Separately, these three are firey, animated,
beautiful performers. Together, they play off of each other and the music blends
into something I haven’t experienced before. Their performance is
as much visual and interactive as instrumental and vocal.
The music just begged for dancing."
--Scott
"Last night’s Tricky Pixie show rocked and swung and swayed and fizzed
and fiddled and diddled and made us all glow...the vibe/crowd was most excellent."
-Emily
"S00j!! Alec!! Betsy!! TRICKY PIXIE!!!! *pantpantdroolhowl*"
-Loba
"Fantastical Music, From a Faery Tale World."
-Jon
"All and all, I have to declare Tricky Pixie as being one of the best bands
around. I came out of their show feeling more alive than I have in a long while.
I was positively giddy."
-Jen
"Tricky Pixie blew us all completely away! Can you say ’Real Magic’?"
-Kelly Miller-Lopez of Woodland, Faerieworlds Festival Organizer-goddess
S. J., Alec, and Betsy formed Tricky Pixie in December of 2006 and discovered, during a set of marathon rehearsals, that they could play together for eight hours at a time and still enjoy each other’s company afterwards. The trio released their first album, Tricky Pixie Live, at the 2007 Faerie Worlds Festival in Oregon.
