    Tri-County Independent Living Center's Interests
GeneralThe Independent Living Movement was born out of both civil rights and the consumer activism movements of the 1960’s. Tri-County ILC serves as a strong advocacy voice on a wide range of national, state, and local issues. We work to assure physical and programmatic access to housing, employment, transportation, recreation, health and social services.

About me:
Tri-County ILC is a non-profit community based organization providing services and advocacy by, and for, all persons with disabilities. We are not a residential facility.

Tri-County ILC was formed in October of 2000, to serve people with disabilities in Davis, Morgan and Weber counties. Our staff is dedicated to working with individuals with disabilities to identify and remove barriers, and to assist with living independently in their own homes and communities.

Four Core Services:
Information and Referral provides information about disability issues and referrals to services for people with disabilities in the community.

Independent Living Skills Training provides training, support, goal planning with people with disabilities so they may be able to live as independently as possible in the community. See insert for a full description.

Peer Mentoring provides advice and support for people with disabilities who are finding it difficult to address disability related issues. This support is provided one-on-one, in educational trainings, and/or in group discussions.

Advocacy services by acting either on behalf of a person with a disability or encouraging the individual to act on his/her own behalf to deal with administrative procedures of various agencies, in settling disputes, securing various entitlements and/or securing financial assistance, and safeguarding legal and human rights for all people with disabilities.

What is the Independent Living Philosophy?
Consumer choice, autonomy and control define Independent Living. The philosophy holds that individuals with disabilities have the right to live with dignity and appropriate support in their own homes; they have the right to fully participate in the activities of their communities; and to control and make decisions about their own lives.

Who I'd like to meet:
This community was created to inspire those living with a disability to express themselves, share experiences, meet new friends, and have fun.
