Trigger is ....
Brad Brittain belting out a lyric and plucking wildly at his guitar. He likes to operate by himself some times but just loves to play with other folks when he gets the chance.
Trigger is also ....
Chris Parkinson playing harmonicas like you rarely hear them played. Chris more than holds his own in any company and any gigs he plays with Trigger go off big time. His vocal contributions are heart felt and always interesting.
Trigger can also be ....
Andy Smith tapping and thumping, banging and crashing anything that comes within reach. He is often out of town but when Andy is around Trigger steps up several notches. Expect to dance. Andy sings plenty of harmonies and is also known to growl his way through a few songs by himself.
Trigger is often ....
an assortment of other folk who feel inspired and are invited to get up and sing or play along. The list of Honorary Trigger members is constantly growing and we secretly harbour a desire to one day pull them all together to form the Trigger Gospel Ensenble!
Influences
These are many and varied.
I was heavily influenced by the Beatles and the Seekers and shows like Bandstand when I was a wee child.
Through the adolescent years I worshiped Ian Gilland from Deep Purple and was in total awe of Robert Plant from Led Zepplin. I also developed an interest in the vocal work of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and the Eagles while developing a healthy respect for the guitar work of Eric Clapton and Ry Cooder.
When the Punk/Disco era blackened the world I retreated into Pink Floyd and began to explore the likes Chick Corea and Stanly Clark with a smattering of Frank Zappa.
By the late 1980's and early 90's I was grabbing at what ever I could find that didn't sound computer generated and discovered the integrity that Australian music had retained and took up the long overdue exploration into the roots of Blues music.
I can't finish this without mentioning Jeff Lang and John Butler. The guys that wrote and played the songs I wanted to.
Sounds Like
A little like Jeff Lang.
A bit like The Backsliders.
A touch of John Butler.
Tips my lid to Ash Grunwald.
Similar material to the Ten Cent Shooters.
As much fun as Andrew Winton.
Sounds like a few beers under the pergola on a balmy summer afrernoon.
Leads to a quiet, intimate glass of Port with your partner after seeing the show before a goodnight cuddle.
Trigger is Brad Brittain and whoever else happens to join him at the time.
The music is acoustic blues with a smattering of folk, a dose of country, rootsy groove and plenty of big vocals.
Brad can also be heard on Radio Fremantle doing a blues show "Everything Blue" on Tuesday nights from 11.00 pm until 1.00 in the morning in Perth time. This show is streamed on the net at www.radiofremantle.com and is also archived for a week at the same site.
