Art. Music. Computers (Apple Mac!). Politics (liberal!). Vegetarian (health & animal rights!). Flying. And I have a patent for a cam operated clamp that I designed.
Santa Fe, New Mexico; Sedona, Arizona; Fredericksburg, Texas (near Austin), see my website, Texas Hill Country Scene and my MySpace page, Hill Country, about the arts and music of the central Texas Hill Country.
There are some people that I haven't seen for a very long time that I am curious about. From Banfield: Peggy Sherman, Gail Williams, and Bill Helgeson. From Winona: Rick Brunberg and Jeff Gappa.
Peeves: People who don't use turn signals (I flash my headlights at them), people who run red stop lights (I honk at them), and people who litter (that's butts too). And also people who use programs to add friends, that's really lame! I add friends one at a time because I like you, or think you might like me.
Quote: "One of the things that really upsets me is when people say, 'I'm not political.' It's upsetting because what do they think politics is? Politics is about who you are, where you stand, what your responsibility is. It's about being part of the world and part of the community. So when someone says 'I'm not political,' I feel like what they are saying is 'I only care about myself. In my bathtub. Me and my bathtub is what I care about.'" -- Julianne Moore
Quote: “If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is just stop eating meat. That’s the single most important thing you could do. Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot: ecology, famine, cruelty.” -- Sir Paul McCartney
Quote: "There are viable (and usually better) alternatives to the use of animals for food, sport, clothing, & experimentation. I beg you to discontinue any actions that might cause or condone animal torture, abuse, or destruction. If you look at the course of western history you'll see that we're slowly granting basic rights to everyone. A long time ago only kings had rights. Then rights were extended to property-owning white men. Then all men. Then women. Then children. Then the mentally retarded. Now we're agonizing over the extension of basic rights to homosexuals and animals. We need to finally accept that all sentient creatures are deserving of basic rights. I define basic rights as this: the ability to pursue life without having someone else's will involuntarily forced upon you. Or, as the framers of the constitution put it, the ability to have 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.' By what criteria can you justify denying basic rights to any living thing? Realize that by whatever criteria you employ someone could deny basic rights to you if they objected to your species, sexual preferences, color, religion, ideology, etc. Would you eat your housecat, or force a mentally retarded child to ingest oven cleaner? If not, then why is it ok to eat cows and test products on sentient animals? I believe that to knowingly commit actions that cause or condone suffering is reprehensible in the extreme. I call upon you to be compassionate and treat others as you want to be treated. If you don't want to be beaten, imprisoned, mutilated, killed, or tortured then you shouldn't condone such behavior towards anyone, be they human or not." -- Moby (American DJ, singer-songwriter, and musician)
Quote: "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." -- Mahatma Gandhi
Mark Bittman's New York Times article, "Rethinking the Meat Guzzler" (January 27) told us that the meat industry has "led to the destruction of vast swaths of the world’s tropical rain forests" and he discussed the havoc it wreaks on streams and rivers. He also us told us that "the majority of corn and soy grown in the world feeds cattle, pigs and chickens. This despite the inherent inefficiencies: about two to five times more grain is required to produce the same amount of calories through livestock as through direct grain consumption..." You'll find that
wonderful article on line at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/weekinreview/27bittman.html
Quote: "You cannot be an environmentalist unless you are vegetarian or vegan." -- Paul Watson (Sea Shepherd's Captain)
I'd like to start a new religion. The donations would be great and I could sure use the tax breaks. It would be called the church of The Don't Worry Doctrine of Nontheistic Apathetic Agnosticism. Anyone can join and I accept all offerings, especially cash, Rolex watches, and Mercedes cars. "The more you give, the less you worry!" (and the less I worry too!!). The 3 fundamental Trimordial tennets are: 1. Don't worry, appreciate what you have, it could always be worse. Worry is counterproductive, it doesn't help, it hurts. Look at everything that could possibly happen (good and bad) and make the best plans, choices, and preparation that you can, and then just move on, which helps you to... 2. Take care of yourself, don't do things that are bad for you. Don't worry, stay healthy, eat right (vegetarian), don't smoke (duh), have patience (enjoy the wait), have fun, and don't overdo anything, which helps you to... 3. Take care of others (and that includes animals and the environment!), don't do things that hurt the world. Try not to be a jerk, don't waste, don't litter, do eat vegetarian, do vote, and don't have kids, or at least not too many! If someone is doing something that you don't like, if they're not hurting anyone or anything, don't worry about it. You can practice my religion any place and any time. When ever you think of it, where ever you are in the world, turn and face our home base in Las Vegas and say "Thanks for a good time!" And remember to give 'til you stop worrying!!
Have the serenity to accept the things you cannot change; courage to change the things you can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Being a vegetarian and being concerned with animal rights today is like being a nonsmoker was in the '50s. Then, not many people new or cared that it was bad to smoke; now almost everyone knows (even though some people are so addicted that they can't stop). In the future, eating meat, and also fish and dairy, will be like smoking is today. Most people will know that meat is bad for them, bad for the environment, and especially bad for the animals themselves!

The Low-Carbon Diet
Change your lightbulbs? Or your car? If you want to fight global warming, it’s time to consider a different diet. By Mike Tidwell in Audubon Magazine. Here is an excerpt:
"Full disclosure: I love to eat meat. I was born in Memphis, the barbecue capital of the Milky Way Galaxy. I worship slow-cooked, hickory-smoked pig meat served on a bun with extra sauce and coleslaw spooned on top.
"My carnivore’s lust goes beyond the DNA level. It’s in my soul. Even the cruelty of factory farming doesn’t temper my desire, I’ll admit. Like most Americans, I can somehow keep at bay all thoughts of what happened to the meat prior to the plate.
"So why in the world am I a dedicated vegetarian? Why is meat, including sumptuous pork, a complete stranger to my fork at home and away? The answer is simple: I have an 11-year-old son whose future — like yours and mine — is rapidly unraveling due to global warming. And what we put on our plates can directly accelerate or decelerate the heating trend..."

A friend of mine, a long time ago, told me a theory that she has that the fear and trauma, that animals experience before being killed, stays in their meat. When people eat that meat, that fear and trauma goes into them. And that's why so many people are so bad. I think it's just that a lot of people are just plain mean, either raised to hate or it's in their genes. But who knows, at least that's another reason to be vegetarian, as if there weren't enough reasons already.
