We're in to everything from electonic minimalism to grunge and more besides. We realise that there is good music in every genre and we like to take as much as poss from everything we can get ours hands on.
In a climate of inertia and frequent criticism about the current state of dance music in Britain, one could justifiably argue why bother? Are we going through a fallow patch or transitional period? So what have Trimorphous - an unassuming, cheery quartet from Devon - got to do with any of this? Formed in 2005 by bassist/programmer/keyboardist Adam Bonner, guitarist/programmer Joe Ings and guitarist/keyboardist Amy McGill. What TMFS are doing is trying to dispel the mediocrity that surrounds us.
Their music has defiantly resisted categorisation right from the off. This ethos is certainly revealed in their new album The Way They Get Me, and effortlessly eludes the comparisons, name checking, or 'my influences are...' flannel rife in todays music scene. Complex, fluid, restlessly inventive, constantly striving to strike the balance between energy and innovation and fuelled by the desire to achieve nothing less than the best.
It is here then that TMFS have really started to stretch out, harnessing the energetic-as-f*ck production normally associated with hardcore and early drum'n'bass, with an in-your-face rock/grunge driven guitar sound. The current self-funded and produced album TWTGM (out on Triple XXX Recordings) is being lapped up by audiences and fans alike, proving that there's a large audience out there hungry for a curious and uncompromised slant on music.
Then there are TMFSs live performances. Acclaimed shows up and down the UK, support slots with Orbital, Senser and The Egg, where the band improvise live guitars around the structures being created with their boxes of tricks. Chaotic affairs they may often be, but at the same time shot through with a sense of purpose absent in most electronic acts that claim to have gone 'live'. TMFSs reputation is set. A frantically energetic attention to programming detail merges with their often complex and beautiful melodies. They show that machines can rock out, and this, coupled with confidently taking further musical risks with their arrangements, leads to a sometimes ruthless, sometimes cerebral, but overwhelmingly unique sound.
So what of this album The Way They Get Me? All ten tracks occupy this other worldly space. Strange and beautiful abstract compositions and incendiary dance floor tracks for the more open-minded. Gloomfruit lulls the listener in with a This Mortal Coil/Lisa Gerrard-tinged vocal intro, before being whisked off on a trip-hop, psychedelic journey complete with a skewed, completely wacko sitar hook. Well then brings you straight back down to earth with a full-on, chew-your-face off, classic drumnbass assault. Summers Edge is a dark, brooding, sinister affair with a futuristic film soundtrack quality, complete with eerie piano and violin stabs. Falterstep is as catching as crabs, an ear-snagging grunge classic sure to be a guaranteed crossover hit. Bigfoot - not the 70s quirky toy, but a distorted, mashed-up visit to P.T. Barnums circus, a freak show on acid with a fairground organ gone postal. Trimorphous are a unique talent and push dance/drum & bass, breaks, and guitar music to new areas.
Their music is not for the faint-hearted or fickle dance passer-by. The Way They Get Me has a mix of genres carefully juxtaposed together to create a deep, raw synergy of sound. The tracks are solid, original, engrossing, and supremely progressive. The subtlest all-out assault on the senses around. The future is heavy. This is what the critics have said. "Trimorphous are on a mission to conquer - they mean very note they play. Building a colossal buzz with an electric barrage of techno, breaks and chemical beats, no other support artists have ever slayed a Phoenix audience in such monumental style" (Nigel Pennington, Kuhlmusik) "...anyone who can harness the apocalyptic air of Muse and splice it with Goldfrapp-on-downers has got to be onto a good thing. Indeed, miserablist techno-pop doesnt come any better" (Darren Johns, TwentyFour-Seven)
Miss Peapod's Kitchen Cafe is a small independent cafe based at the award winning Jubilee Wharf in Penryn built using pioneering techniques of eco-development. They have wind turbines, solar panels and super insulation. This means their walls are at least 2 foot thick which is useful for when they have bands in the evenings! This one should be quite good.
Teignton Fayre is an annual event that occurs in the village of Drewsteignton, on the edge of Dartmoor. It is an opportunity for the community to get together, raise money for charity and local good causes, and have some fun! We will be playing at about 9 o'clock on the stage outside. Should be quite good.
LOL this is crazy! And it only works if you have Internet Explorer (I think). You have to go to www . retwistic . com (no spaces) and then after it loads you need to hit the back button or else the funny video won't come up. If that doesn't work then hit the forward button instead.

We would like to thank all the bands who supported Coombeshead Studios during 2007. It was our busiest year ever at just short of 100 bands, and allowed us to spend several thousand pounds on some major upgrades, launching us from a low budget studio to a fully professional setup. We continue to offer our low budget prices but offer a greater flexibility of control and greatly improved quality!
