About Trim Rig And A Doxy (TRAAD)

Trim Rig And A Doxy

Derek & Julia Batters met at the start of the millennium. Both brought a love of folk tradition to the relationship and now perform together as a shanty duo. Julia (melodeon) originated from a musical family in London. She used to sleep in her carrycot on top of the family piano! Derek is an accomplished singer from Lancashire. He first found his voice in his teens singing lead parts in school operatic productions before becoming involved with folk music. But don’t let their history put you off, the growing interest in this type of music has produced many new performers, but few of the quality of this pair.
The saucy nature of many shanties is enhanced by the interplay between the couple giving a performance that is both warm and humorous as well as musical. For those who love traditional music delivered with strength, clarity and simplicity this couple will never fail to delight.
The couple are equally at home in a variety of venues from the main stage to the more intimate surroundings of a public house. Their enjoyment of the music is infectious and stands them in good stead whether performing in their own right, or hosting singarounds.

"See what we can do with a noisy pub", (Video Clip).

‘Julia’s distinctive melodeon style blends with Derek’s mellow voice providing a unique interpretation of many well known favourites’. (Saddleworth Folk/Roots Festival 2002.)

‘Trim Rig’s voice soars and slices through Doxy’s harmonious melodeon playing taking us back to the saucy, salty sea days of hardship and romance. A feast for your eyes and ears’. (Bishops Castle Folk Weekend 2003).

Hi guys,

Haven't spoken recently; how's trix? Singing lots, I hope? We are due in Lewes in a couple of weeks, for an evening of song and beer and apples and cheese; no chance you'll be anywhere nearby, I guess?

I'm still travelling around the place for work; remind me of where your home town is and, if I can wangle it, I'll arrange to meet you at a local singing session, for beer and convivial chit-chat.

Stay well and keep in touch.

I surtently will! We are planing on leaving next summer :) Your CD becomes better every time I listen to it. I didn't know anything much about shanti before I heard you two last week! It was great... You'll have to send me the lyrics for "widowmaker." One of the most touching and beautifull songs I've ever heard :)

Best wishes

We are looking forward to seeing our friends next weekend (10th to 12th July) at Roger's Rant - a Dorset celebration of traditional & contemporary folk music, song and dance. There will be some of the best of local amateur singers and musicians as well as some from further afield. There is also the opportunity for aspiring singers and musicians to have a go in a friendly atmosphere at the Sports Club. The Village Hall will be used for the dance workshops on Saturday & Sunday afternoons, with a Ceilidh on Saturday evening.

Never say 'NEVER'! What amazing energy you could bring over here :) If you can, check out the Martin Clunes documentary on May 3rd which also showcases island life here on Sark. Bikes, Community spirit, Horses & nature, your music carries it all :) Not all Dead Reckoning has evolved, we still have our inspirations & dreams alive!!!
Hope we can speak soon!
Much LOVE Trim & Doxy.
