Influences
Disco Disco Disco!
If I had a time machine I know where I'd go - The Garage, The Sanctuary, the Warehouse, the Loft... but man cannot yet bend the rules of space, so this is the closest I can get to time travel.
As a child I was into chart music that I now realise was electro, disco and house influenced - Pet Shop Boys, Prince, S'Express, Eurhythmics, M/A/R/R/S, "Deep In Vogue".
After seeing "Saturday Night Fever" in 1995 I was bitten by the Disco bug - in 1997 I heard "Is It All Over My Face (Female Vocal)" and the love affair was cemented.
Living in Glasgow from 1997 onwards I was heavily into the deep house scene - Sub Club, Glasgow Underground, Sole Music, Fresh'n'Low, DJ Q, etc., though I also had exposure back home in Ireland form the likes of Sweat, Radio Friendly and the sweet soul mixes of Stevie G. In Glasgow I learned how to DJ, heavily influenced by Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak for their smooth, layered, but never boring Chicago styles.
Running the Discopia webzine, I have been lucky enough to talk disco with the likes of Daniel Wang, David Mancuso, I-F, Nicky Siano, Greg Wilson, Lindstrom and more, who have all pointed me to fantastic music from obsure corners of the disco universe.
You want more?! Ok, here's a list for you:
Idjut Boys/Noid/U-Star Records, Lindstrom/Todd Terje/Feedelity Records, Daniel Wang/Brennan Green/Balihu Records, Prins Thomas/Ytra Rmden Danskola/Full Pupp, LCD/DFA/Hercules & Love Affair, Maurice Fulton/Syclops/Mu, I-F/Alden Tyrell/Viewlexx Records/Clone Records, Metro Area/Kelley Polar/Environ Records, Rune Lindbaek/Bjorn Torske/Norwegian House, Salt City Orchestra/Pagan/Paper Recordings, Legowelt/Bangkok Impact/Creme Organisation Records, Chicken Lips/Greg Wilson/Tirk Records/Nuphonic Records, Dimitri From Paris/Daft Poonk/French House, Patrick Cowley's Synths, Arthur Russell's Brain, Larry Levan's Remixes, August Darnell's Songwriting & Andy Hernandez's Arranging, Cybernetic Broadcasting System, I-F DJ sets in unusual locations, Prins Thomas DJ sets pretty much anywhere, Greg Wilson mixes from back in the day, Greg Wilson mixes from today, Giorgio Moroder's "From Here To Eternity" LP, the "Glow Worms" 12" by Chroma Oscura, HORSE MEAT DISCO (best crowd, best tunes, best dancing, best club in the world!) and the fact that some crazy Norwegians make better disco than anything coming out of New York or London.

"Trippy Disco" is the combination of deep space and movement: the beats drive you forward, and out the window you hear the whooshing of passing galaxies. The mirrorball Moon casts a thousand points of light into the night sky, and we dance to the rushing of time.
Originally Trippy Disco started off as a club night, an excuse to play wigged out disco, funk and house records, at Glasgow's 13th Note club (now Barfly). After a short run on the city's number 1 studio radio station Subcity Radio, The Trippy Disco Show graduated to Radio Magnetic, where it freaked out the aquares form 2002-2007.
DISCOPIA
Always an enterprising geezer, in 2001 Niall started a small fanzine called Discopia to cover the burgeoning new disco scene and the thriving deep house sound of Glasgow. In 2005, with support from the likes of international players Daniel Wang, Greg Wilson, JD Twitch, DJ Apollo and local scene stalwarts Andrew Back, Stuart Hardie, James Pole, Andy Piagentini and Billy Woods, Discopia made the transtitoin form paper fanzine to website.
