"I refuse to live a life the world calls normal. I rather be like Jesus and live my life to please the Father in Heaven, Knowing one day I will be with Him forever." -Triumph
"His sheep know His voice, if you dont hear that voice, check where you're grazing." -Triumph
"Why do we take God's credit? the Artist should get credit for the Art...Not the paint brush." -Triumph
Darren Smith, known by his stage name Triumph the Vessel, was born October 3 1988. He was born and raised in a small town in Virginia called Mathews County, where in the year 2007 he graduated from grade school. Triumph’s family consisted of his mom, dad, two brothers, and one sister.
On August 16th, 2008 Triumph married his high school sweetheart Erica, after four years of dating. They currently stay in their hometown, Mathews County, where they’re raising their 2 year old daughter, Saniya.
Triumph’s parents always had their kids go to church. They taught them the ways of the bible and showed them through their own relationship how to conduct themselves as believers. Even though this was so, around fourteen years old Triumph took it on his self to try to figure life out his own way. He began to try to fit in with the other kids at school and did not listen to the teachings and warnings of his parents. He began cursing, listening to secular music, being the class clown, and brewing up an anger issue that caused him to get in even more trouble.
In high school, Triumph was always found rapping with his peers. The more he did it, the more his skills developed. He would battle rap verse others for fun and sometimes to try to gain respect.
Triumph wanted to stop and get his life back on track with Jesus. But he had fear that he would have to give up his friends and reputation.
One day, one of Triumph’s friends decided to live by the bible and give his life to Christ. This amazed him. Triumph never has seen a person of this age bold and unashamed of God. Not long after, he put his fear of being different on the shelf and rededicated his life to Christ.
Since that day, He has never felt any regret. In fact, to this day he is still growing and maturing in the spirit. His life has been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Now Triumph has a heart for the lost souls in the world, knowing he was once there. He uses his lyrical gift now to proclaim the goodness of the Lord and to encourage as well as inform truth and righteousness.
His personal goal on this earth is to be about his Father’s business; building up the kingdom of God until he hears “ well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
