About me:
The Troops Out Now Coalition (TONC) is a national grassroots coalition calling for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, Afghanistan and other parts of the world where U.S. imperialism is running rampant.
Any doubts that this senseless quagmire was motivated by a corporate agenda -- oil profits -- was erased when oil companies and Washington thinktanks wrote Iraq's oil law now being reviewed by Iraq's parliament. It calls for pushing aside Iraq's existing state-run oil board and creating a new one. Sitting on this new oil board would be executives from ExxonMobil, Texaco, Shell and BP. Iraq's constitution was already rewritten so that between 60 and 80% of the country's undeveloped oil fields would be open to foreign oil companies.
In their quest to reap huge profits from Iraq’s immense oil reserves, these oil companies have turned Iraq into a death trap for both Iraqis and U.S. soldiers. They have also drained the public treasury, taking already-scarce funds for schools, medicine, flood control and other human needs, and spending it on war. This makes the broad mass of people in the U.S. and Iraq automatic allies. That goes for Palestine, Afghanistan and Somlia too--anywhere the people an occupation. Our joint demand is TROOPS OUT NOW!
The campaign to control Iraq’s oil -- that has made these oil companies the enemy of the Iraqi people -- is driven by the same need for profit that makes other companies the enemy of people here at home.
We are also fighting wars at home that the U.S. government and Wall Street are waging against the working class which include police brutality against "minorites", racism against immigrant workers, and widespread layoffs while the CEO's are getting seven figure bonuses just name a few.
Every day this criminal war goes on is more money that won't go to the programs where it is most needed like rebuilding New Orleans, healthcare, after school programs,etc.
Tens of thousands of Iraqis have been killed. Tens of thousands of U.S. troops have been maimed, thousands killed. We're tired of phony timetables put forth by politicians. The troops deserve to be brought home to their loved ones NOW.
