Tip van Bob	Jun 13 2009 2:32 PM Troum – Eald-Ge-Stréon Troum is a German duo consisting of Stefan Knappe (BarakaH) and Martin Gitschel (GLIT[s]CH), and making drone ambient and noisy experimental sounds. Troum is an old German word for Dream and nowadays spelled Traum. They released over thirty releases in all kinds of formats and all kinds of different labels. The latest release is on the fantastic Beta-lactam Ring Records, known for a lot of Nurse With Wound, Edward Ka-Spel and Andrew Liles records. Eald-Ge-Stréon is a collection of strange and odd old jewels, as Troum puts it. Most basic versions were recorded years ago, but they sound utterly brilliant. “Elation” is the first of seven tracks, and this already the first of many highlights. This is an overture, sending constant shivers up your spine. The electronic sound is complete and full sounding, one big layer where you could lean to. The melody is so sad and gloomy, yet so beautiful! “Usque Sumus Lux” starts off with a churchbell sample, accompanied by industrial sounding percussion, as old Zoviet France could do back then. More electronics come in and after three minutes it seems like a hundred synths explode at the same time, this is such a full wall of sound like you never heard before. This is almost impossible to put into words, I would love to hear this in a stadium, but for now the speakers at home will do. “Eolet” is more of a Troum track as we know them, nice ambient drones, and a piece of well deserved rest. Slow melodies without any rhythm. In “Ecstatic Forlorness” the percussion is back, and combined with the electronics it gets a little harsher again with even some voices. The synths sounding like choirs, again a masterpiece. “Dhanu-H” is based on a song by a German schlager singer, and I am wondering who that is. Anyway, the song is again so beautiful that it almost makes you cry. “Procession” is a cover version of an old Savage Republic track, originally on the album Tragic Figures from 1982.
