Hello there, my name is Troy. I want to be a person of the world. I want to bridge gaps and fill crevices. Change is possible. Change is what the universe was founded upon. A change here, a change there. That is something we need to embrace.
I am a Junior in high school in Mesquite, Texas. I feel like I am finally becoming myself and forming the traits that I will carry on for the rest of my life. I plan to go somewhere and make something of myself one day. Environmentalism and peace activism is something that really interests me, and it is where I see my future. I like to keep my life simple, simple things are the things i find joy in. There are many things in my life that I wish to accomplish. I try my hardest to live an informed lifestyle and try to look at things in a whole manner.
Likewise, I am a vegetarian. I believe a vegetarian diet can solve so many of our problems, from heath to environment, to ethics. In case you didnt know, producing meat for consumption is the biggest polluter of our green earth. Surprised? Well it shouldn't be surprising if you have seen a slaughter house or been to a factory factory farm. Its no surprise that the dirtiest, most abusive places on earth would not take into account what they are doing to the environment. But even besides that, if you look at meat consumption from a more broad standpoint, you will see how inefficient and messed up it really is. "You are what you eat"...right? Well lets look at what the animals, cows in particular, are eating...Corn mostly. Whats wrong with that? Well, first cows aren't even meant to eat the stuff, they were meant to eat grass; which makes for an unhealthy cow and therefore unhealthy meat. But it also affects the cows immune system. Because the cows and so unhealthy, they are given a slew of antibiotics to well, keep them alive until slaughter. Essentially, the corn is there because is it the cheapest fom of calories to keep them alive, not to keep them helthy or to produce good meat (which it actually does to the contrary). So how does this tie into the american peoples' health? Well meat in the U.S. has become a very casual meal item, being eaten all three meals a day, every day of thee week, while in other cultures it is a luxury, meant for a Sunday dinner type of thing. But the meat has become so cheap here that we can fry it up for every meal. But that cheap price can be deceptive, because after all is really that cheap after you pay for your slew of medical problems? Nope. Vegetarians have also been documented to have longer, healthier lives. Beyond these reasons, if you feel compassion for other living things, and if you see what these animals live in (like if you search "factory farm" on google images) , you will realize just how wrong factory farming is to begin with.
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." -Mohandas Gandhi
I think I might have found my passion: environmentalism: That in which is inevitably part of us. I see myself educating society, and influencing change for the benefit of us and our world. One day us humans will go back to living in harmony with out environment, after all it is just in recent human history that we have done to the contrary. Though I know I cannot change the world all by myself, I know I can with your help.
My school is very interesting. Our school motto is 1:1, yet the teacher to student ratio is really more like 1:35 or 1:40. In other words, my school is massive, both in people size and building size. In my first year in high school this was pretty intimidating, but now I am getting more used to it. When I think its kind of silly that we are learning something, or when I know I will never use something past the homework for a class, I tell myself that high school is only temporary, and it is. Things are starting to go faster, its kind of scary. I look back on my life and try to remember all the times from when I was younger, I find it very interesting. Often times I will find myself looking at photo albums filled with memories. I feel like the past is sort of a reality check.
I love music, and listening to people express themselves in songs. I'm not going to list all of the artists that I listen to here, but there are a few photos below of ones that I really enjoy. Also, I play the cello in my school orchestra.
In all honesty, I do not think a lot of people even read my about me. So if you did, thanks. :) People ask me some pretty obvious questions that are conclusively answered in my about me. Get to know me better, I love making new friends! :)

""So, What Do You Want To Do With Your Life?" You should be a lawyer, a doctor, an accountant, a consultant, blah, blah, blah. Everywhere you turn, people try to tell you who to be and what to do with your life. We call that the noise. Block it. Shed it. Leave it for the conformists. As a generation, we need to get back to focusing on individuality. Self construction rather than mass production. Define your own road in life instead of traveling down someone else’s. Listen to yourself.
