   Dave of Nazareth's Comedian Bio
BioI was once a sperm and very small...then suddenly there was light and I sang in public for the first time...it was frightening and, in fact, I was slapped hard on the ass for it...then I was raised by the most excellent and strong family in what was once a very small Northeastern Pennsylvanian town where everyone knew each other...most, including my family and friends, were sure I was definitely *pixilated...

I was an ambitious yet insane youngster and kind of popular for antics/music/parties and felt damn good despite all the average heartbreak and disappointment of youth...then I shoved huge amounts of knowledge into my skull and entered quasi-adulthood where I was promptly and roundly beaten nearly unto death by persuing what those around me at the time called “normality”…after leaving the hospital eons later I found that singing wasn’t frightening but rather something rapturous and I found that odd, strange, peculiar, ect. are qualities that I have been blessed with and not cursed with…and now I share my gift with anyone and everyone, young and old, and have found a joy and peace that I will forever be grateful for…

Now if I could just get laid more often…

*pixilated = reference the original movie (Mr. Deeds Goes To Town) 1936, Columbia Pictures Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur, dir. Frank Capra...

...I had my own garage band for numerous years in my other life (when I had hair down past my ass and wore nothing if it was not torn and black) and have played electric and acoustic guitar, drums, a wicked harmonica, various percussions and I have been a front man vocalist with a couple of rock bands.....I have worked as a roadie at The State Theatre in Easton and helped Gloria Estefans crew set up all the microphones and found her to be a very cool person, helped set up the Warsaw Ballet, Hairspray, Christmas shows, ect...I audition for plays wherever thay will have me, Pennsylvania Playhouse, Pocono Playhouse, ect...in the last several years I have entertained at all types of places and under all types of situations, sometimes opening for the headliner and sometimes headlining, most paid gigs and some open mike and some charity but whatever the event I am There...ref. Brenda and Jerrys, The Java Lounge, Valentinos, The Classic Rock-And-Roll Cafe, Touchstone Theatre, The Wildflower Cafe, The Crave Lounge, The Hammerhead Lounge, The Funhouse, Porters Pub, Infusion Cafe, Kickers, The Allentown Brewworks, Mezza Luna Bar And Grill, The Ramsey Inn, The Bar With No Name, Sterling Hotel, The Laugh House, Comedy Cabaret, The Neon, a number of VFWs and other associations, and though over the years I have forgotten some of the venue names I have performed in these cities, Bethlehem, Allentown, Easton, Nazareth, Ramsey N.J., Bally Pa., Hellertown, Philadelphia,...if there is a microphone anywhere near me I Have To Sing,...to be cont....

InfluencesBeing blessed with a family that loved all the "classic" music, television and movies of the last six decades or so I have grown packed with the spirit of everything from Benny Goodman, Arthur Godfried and the Archies through to Dino Martin, Sinatra, Torme, Bobby Darrin to Vinton, Devo, Zappa, and *Thus Spake Zarathustra...

So I would have to say that musically my family influenced me to appreciate great rhythm and beat (Dad had played the sax, Brother beat the skins a few years, Sister sang with a groovy soul/disco band and had the Mama Cass-thing down pat, other sister danced at the Hullabaloo with the big hair and the Nancy Sinatra-type boots, that kind of thing)...and when I became a musician I did loud, hard, rock-and-roll which was the thing at the time for the garage bands. but found myself drawn to the crooners and sole male soul singers of my youth, those of my Mother and Fathers 50s era, my sisters 60s era, and my brothers 70s era, those persons and personalities I watched on Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Perrry Como, Andy Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Roger Miller, Johnny Horton, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, Mel Torme, Jim Croce, Bobby Vinton, Jimmy Buffet, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Herman Hermits, Burt Bacharach, Elvis, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Tom Jones, Tommy Roe, Beatles, Monkees, Joe Jackson and even Spike Jones, and more

I was quite a sponge for pop culture in the first thirty or so years of my life so I guess all those turbulent and free-spirited times influenced me a good deal...

*yes, I used the title "Thus Spake Zarathustra"...this is a long and rather unfunny but great classical music tune made more famous through its use in 2001: A Space Odyssey and not a vocal performing song that one will ever do in the coffehouses as well as having no words that I am aware of but I figured it would be intriguing to see if anyone noticed..

MembersJust me and my member... always looking for the right jazz/blues cover band though...

I would love to have drummer Gene Krupa, bassist Larry Welborn, and trumpet player Herb Alpert back me up but I suppose its too late for that...

But if you are a drummer, bassist, or horn player who loves the upscale lounge scene...your on... you supply the music and I have the voice and the gigs already set...We will knock em out...and even make a good buck...no worries.

One of the many, many children that appeared on the Philadelphia show called "Romper Room" (and if you remember that show please go right now and have a complete physical...your old).

Two aired episodes of the show entitled "FX, The Collectors Show" on the FX network before their change in format.

Audition for "Stupid Human Tricks" for "Late Show With David Letterman".

Sold video of Stupid Human Trick to Lehman Prod. but was never advised if it aired or not...They do most of those amazing video-clip shows...but if I become famous for anything it will probably pop up in the tabloids or something.

Films........A small role in the upcoming Motion Picture Production........"The Mentor"

I am interested in such a wide variety of subjects the list is endless but a partial listing would read like this in no particular order of preference. I am highly interested in Art (especially Frans Hals, Rembrandt, DaVinci and the like to Jackson Pollack and Dali).

I am interested in Poster Art and the earlier Graphic Artists and also love the Sculpture of the Masters.

I love old Movie and War Posters.

I am interested in Pop Culture collectables across the board with emphasis on those items that represent a time or place important to American or International psyche.

I am interested in those People who have overcome great odds and hearing of those mistakes they made and trying to not make those same mistakes.

I enjoy and am interested in riding Horses, Waterskiing, Reading, Writing, Comedy and Comedians, Singing, Acting, Karaoke (its how I was “discovered” a long time ago), Talented People with the Moxy to publicly perform (also interested in using antiquated words that make people slow down….hence the word Moxie), good Movies, good Music, Making good Music, Pottery, Architecture, Antiques of Distinction, Asian artifacts, Egyptian artifacts, Bicycling, Swimming, Diving, Airplanes and Flying, Sunbathing, Boats and Boating, Beautiful Landscapes of the World and those types of places.

I am interested in History and Science in nearly all ways. I Am interested in England, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, Egypt, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and many other places around the globe.

I am also highly interested in the Martial Arts from the subtle types of the Eastern disciplines to the Weapons and Soldiers of the West.

I Love Woman and will spend time with any and/or all of them as often as I can across the board.

I am interested in a huge variety of things and very interested in hoping and praying that “The Powers That Be” grant me enough time to at least see, hear and experience half of those things.

I am interested in being the best performer that I can be.

I am highly interested in Americans and being a good American.

I am interested in taking whatever effort I can to make someone else’s life pleasant.

Music

I love music but have a rather eclectic taste when it comes to simply listening to music and a little (but not much) leeway when it comes to dancing and club music. I think you will be able to tell by this list that I do not associate with rap and find it impolite for the most part and that classic sounds from the 50's through to about the late 80's is more my gig because I have nothing in common and can't relate to the music genres that are being produced today. I must admit to a gradual growing fondness for Ska simply because you can dance to it and it doesn't insult the senses and its, for the most part, fun. My pet peeve in music is a vocalist who sings everything like he or she has beeen constipated for way to long or has a major problem with substance abuse.

So lets face it, when it comes to music, if I'm not dancing I like music that is fairly square and has established itself through time and the generations as being what one would call "classic"...

Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, Bowie, Devo, James Brown, Jim Croce, Buddy Holly, Jimmy Buffet, The Clancy Brothers, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Ricky Nelson, Louis Prima, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Presidents of the United States, The Who, Roger Miller, Elvis, Zappa, The Cars, Bobby Darin, Johnny Cash, Leon Redbone, Louis Armstrong, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Donovan, Dion, Yes, Rush, and believe it or not even some Perry Como, I also like Tom Petty, Stray Cats, The Ramones, Hermans Hermits, James Taylor, The B-52's, Cyndi Lauper, and when I am absolutely at rest and need to wind down big time I like Tchaikovsky, Handel, Wagner, Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Bach, Cole Porter, and Cohan, and some big band swing like Tommy Dorsey and such, I can listen and enjoy almost anything when it comes to music but I dont want to hear dance/club/rap music while I am sitting or driving or doing things other than dancing.

I would always prefer to hear music that is "fun" and has established itself over the years with the masses and after all is said and done (and it has been) I would rather laugh with or at The Archies or the Jackson 5 then suffer through another whiney, innarticulate, me generation, grunge/thrasher/Sid Viscious wannabee. Guess I just like Pop/Jazz type beats.

Most of my repotoire consists of performers such as...Dino, Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Paul Simon, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Ernie Ford, and the other "Ed Sullivan"-classic TV types...

MoviesBasically every movie of classic distinction ever made except for the pure romanticals or noir.

Television

I find television enjoyable only if one never watches the main channels. I watch almost exclusively educational programs and old movies except for Letterman and Craig Furgeson for late night with perhaps some Twilight Zone to sleep on. Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, The History Channel, Turner Classic Movies, American Movie Classics (not so musch since they are showing commercials now), PBS for Nova, Nature and The Antiques Roadshow, HBO, and all the other premium movie channels...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Sometimes some vinatge Star Trek or newer Next Generation or even I Dream of Jeannie on TVLAND just for fun...

Create Fake Magazine Covers with your own picture at MagMyPic.com

...but I refuse to take anything on television seriously even and especially the so-called news for it is rabid with the idea of filling time just for the sake of the vast wasteland it can be made out to be.

I do watch American NFL Football with intense attention seeing how it is the perfect analogy to American life and spirit. >

I think television can be senseless and be great fun and that doesn't seem to be too much of a waste of time as long as you never believe the news and as Bob Barker would say....remember to always have your pets spayed or nuetered.

HeroesImage Hosted by ImageShack.us

Most everyone whom has come before me, is here presently, and shall come in the future seeing as life is both joyous and frought with toil and to be heroic in my ideal is to face the challenges your circumstances present and somehow mold them into a sentient purpose.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

My parents, of course, would be listed amoung my heroes as well as my whole family and basically I stick to my opening statement that all peoples have their triumph and trial and no other is to judge whom amoungst them is of "Heroic" stature for maybe the idea is to just live and not be bothered enough to know the difference.

God Bless All The U.S. Armed Forces and the United States of America in the past, present, and future and to all the Heroes!

About me:

Myspace Backgrounds

I am an idiot...but that is far off-set, perhaps, by the fact that I am a great lounge singer/impersonator/comedian...

I am a bit of an "Old Worlder" and believe in good social skills and manners and in that respect I want to Thank All Those whom have supported me in the past and those who have helped me attain the joy I claim now. There are many who have knowingly or unknowingly assisted me in my life endeavor and some who have even changed and/or saved my life. For all of your help I am most humbled and...I Thank You, My Mother Thanks You, My Father Thanks You and I Wish You All The Very Best In All You Are!

The greatest peace I have ever felt in life was while I was singing, making people laugh and having sex...and then I came to realize that I was doing all three things at the same time...Boy, the audience was just as surprised as I was I can tell ya!...soooo, you can be sure I spend every waking hour trying to get onto a stage. I try to get in front of a live audience whenever possible and practice two hours a day whenever practical and can and will break out with something at the drop of a hat…but fortunately or unfortunately, since I am an impersonator, that usually causes people to mistake me for the truly insane (strangely, not in certain parts of New Jersey though) and so I am even more overjoyed when I am allowed by the State to leave my limestone cave (a.k.a. Supermans Telephone Booth) to entertain The Peoples…I just gotta tell ya, I Love It!

As soon as I figure this streaming thing out!...

Comic-wise Ime kind of hard to describe…though I do not necessarily care for the five-minute comedy spot of most stand up clubs I am resigned to it as the rules and appreciate the discipline of brevity but I much rather enjoy having set a track for the train to run. I really enjoy the MC spot and have an affinity for great introductions…Put Me Into Your Rock And Roll Event, Your Birthday Party, Bar mitzvahs, Heck, I will do Your Pets Birthday Party!…

Quite soon I will be posting numerous videos and sound/music tracks I am sure most of you will find highly interesting as soon as I work out all the small details on the camera and brand new sound recording software. I hope you will find them entertaining. Keeping Posted and trying to look into my friend's sites as often as possible. I Am Thankful for such a wide ranging and interesting bunch of friends and sites to observe!...Thank You.

My comedic influences range widely but I tend to be drawn towards those I grew up with…from those early years watching the movies and TV shows of Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, W. C. Fields, to the years of Martin and Lewis through Dan Rowan and Dick Martins Laugh-In to Johnny Carson and Craig Furgeson and not forgetting of all those great classic cartoons I watched continuously…so many funny people and characters are in my heart…I have a real soft spot for those who make people smile and laugh including these others that I respect, study, and admire for Doing That Voodoo That They Do Sooooo Well !…Albert Brooks, Gene Wilder, John Candy, Phil Hartman (A Great Impersonator and Actor!), Mel Brooks, Robin Williams, Jack Lemmon, Rich Little, Chevy Chase, Soupy Sales, Buddy Hackett, Jonathan Winters, John Belushi, Steve Martin, Don Rickels, Jimmy Durante, Jerry Seinfeld, Sid Caeser, Phil Silvers, Rodney Dangerfield, Charlie Chaplin, Charlie Callas, Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Flip Wilson, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Charles Grodin, Andy Kauffman, Stiller and Meara, Rip Taylor, George Burns, Robert Klein, Woody Allen, Tony Randall, Foster Brooks, Charle Nelson Reilly, Victor Borge, Bill Cosby, Dom DeLuise, George Gobel, and for some really odd reason Shirley MacLaine and Harvey Lembeck (How Weird Is That, huh?).

For quite a while now I have been closely associated with a few venues around...Brenda and Jerry's of the Lehigh Valley...MC/comedian/songs/stage management ect. as well as getting in the way at clubs and open microphones all over...tryin to fit the act to the location and audience...perhaps a few songs or a comedy routine, a few impersonations, some gags...just like to keep it loose...sometimes this even works and I hope I am fortunate enough to see you out there in the audience enjoying life in general, it's kind of a goal of mine, you know...

Be back with much more information then you would possibly want to know very soon...

of course, this is taking into account that anyone ever read my profile anyway...just kiddin...

Who I'd like to meet:
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I'd love to hang out with the Rat Pack for a week or two...i.e...a few brunches, some dining out and then to the clubs, then perhaps off to Frank's house for Babes...I mean Wow!

I might also enjoy meeting Einstein, going to his house for dinner and conversation, and then later...off to the campus for Babes...I mean Wow!

I love meeting people and as I am a professional stage performer there is no short supply of people to meet and to date I have not met a human I didn't like and very, very few I didn't like enough to not call human.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Being the kind of person who likes people who have that reputation as a "classic" or "class act" throughout the past and present there are just too many I would love to see and spend some time with.

I am interested in good times with a bit of laid back calm combined with some wild and crazy with good entertainment evened out with good food and great friends...and yes, let's face it...Babes.

So, the weekend has like, arrived, and I think there really is only one thing you should be doing...pleasing yourself. Make sure you spend every second of the weekend involved in heavy sessions of self pleasing, for once you have pleased yourself, you will be capable of pleasing others as well, prehaps at the same time.

Episode 8: Oligarchy rules of our little podcast is out now as well by the way, on itunes or last.fm, would love to know what you think of it, once you've pleased yourself of course :)

I just went to see "Avatar" in 3d at the Hamilton 16 IMAX. The 3d puts you right into the movie. This is the best 3d that I have ever seen. The story is great, the actors are great, the CGI is great and the action is great. I give this movie 5 stars out of 4 because "Avatar" has exceeded my expectations. I recommend spending a few extra bucks to see it in 3d or you will lose out on this hyper-experience. It is the difference between a silent movie and a talkie.
