Troy Roberts grew up in the remote location of Perth, West Australia and began playing the saxophone at age 13, and was granted early entrance into the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts at the young age of 15. He received numerous awards and scholarships including the Bob Wylie Jazz Scholarship and the James Morrison Jazz Scholarship before graduating with His Bachelor of music at the age of 19. Roberts completed a Masters at the University of Miami where he was also teaching part-time, and has since performed with Kevin Mahogany, Ingrid Jensen, Slide Hampton, Gary Bartz, Sammy Figueroa, Melton Mustafa, Robby Ameen, Lew Soloff and Lauryn Hill to name a few. Having so far received four Downbeat Awards and two West Australian Music Industry Awards for his musicianship, Troy continues to tour Europe with Australian jazz trumpeter James Morrison, and the US with his own group, VOID. Currently residing in Australia, Roberts has just released his second album, “The XenDen Suite”, an eight-part composition for jazz quartet and string quartet (available on CD Baby).
