Truckstop Coffee's Blog

our favorite music of the year

We were very honored to learn that For Dear Life was selected as one of Front Porch Musings www.frontporchmusings.com record's of the year this year.

The guys who run that site asked the bands they selected to submit their own favorite albums of the year, or older albums they listened to a lot this year.  We thought that was a very cool idea and were more than happy to contribute.

Without further adieu, below is what we at the TSC camp have been listening to most in 2009:

Pete:

1. The Weight - 10 Mile Grace
Listened to it across about 3,000 miles recently. It's really, really sad good.

2. Two Cow Garage - Speaking in Cursive
Painfully identifiable rock songs about how beautifully dumb it is to be a traveling musician.

3. The Most Beautiful Losers - Wreckage
Whiskey songs, drunk dialing songs. A punky and fun way to rip yer heart out.

4. Lucero - 1372 Overton Park
So good I gave away my copy to a girl hoping she would understand what I was trying to tell her...and trying to do with my life.

5. Richard Buckner - Richard Buckner
An oldie...but I can't help but listen to it all the time.

Caleb:

1. Wilco - wilco
2. Ryan Adams and the cardinals - Cardinology
3. Bob Dylan - Desire
4. Black rebel motorcycle club - Howl
5. Allman brothers - Peaking at the beacon

Bob:

1. Casio Tone For The Painfully Alone
Some gay guy made a shitty sounding record about being gay and it was the most honest thing I have listened to in a very long time.

2. Superdrag - Industry Giants
The first song was worth the money, the other tracks were just icing on top.

3. The Melvins - Senile Animal
Almost 2 years old and still kills it every time I hear it.

4. Two Cow Garage - Speaking In Cursive
I shouldn't really have to explain this should I?

5. Anything ever recorded by Neil Young.

Larry:

1. AA Bondy - When the Devil's Loose
Great for evenings on the porch with a cigar and glass of whiskey.

2. Micah Schnabel - When the Stage Lights Go Dim
"Cut Me Mick" is one of the best - if not the best - songs ever written about being addicted to being a musician, regardless of the outcome.

3. Chad Price - Smile Sweet Face
To quote a Drag The River song, the songs on this record are "beautiful and damned."  Probably not the best thing to listen to on long drives at night, unless you want to think about every regret in your life, but it's so fucking good.

4. Jason Lytle - Brand New Sun
If you don't buy the record, please just find and listen to "Ghost of My Old Dog."

5. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Heads Will Roll"
I don't have the record, but I crank this whenever it comes on.  It's so much fun, it almost balances out all the sad-bastard music I listen to.  Almost.
