SACRED STEEL were established in August 1996 from the ramins of TRAGEDY DIVINE. With just one 5-track rehearsal tape SACRED STEEL managed to get a deal as the first ever German band at Metal Blade Records early 1997. The d ebut album Reborn In Steel was released in November 1997 and earned rave reviews (a.o. ROCK HARD 8,5 of 10 pts., HEAVY ODER WAS 10 of 12). In July 1998 the 2nd album Album Wargods Of Metal was recorded at Mohrmann Studio in Bochum, Germany with producer legend Bill Metoyer (SLAYER, TROUBLE, FATES WARNING, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, W.A.S.P. a.o.). Right after the recordings SACRED STEEL played a remarkable show at the Wacken Open-Air. Early 1999 they went on European tour with NEVERMORE, LEFAY and NOCTURNAL RITES. They also performed on some more festivals like the Mind Over Matter in Austria and again the Wacken Open-Air replacing Marduk spontaneously. In August of the same year the went on their first headlining tour with DESTINYS END and WARDOG.
In January 2000 it was up time to do the 3rd album Bloodlust . The band chose the House Of Music Studio in Winterbach with Achim Köhler (PRIMAL FEAR, PEGAZUS, TOTENMOND,...) produing. . The result was stunning! Press results featured this as well (ROCK HARD 9 of 10 pts. , HAMMER 6 of 7, METAL HEART 9,5 of 10,...) In February / March 2001 SACRED STEEL again went on European tour with PRIMAL FEAR and CHILDREN OF BODOM.
As the contract with Metal Blade Records expired after three albums, SACRED STEEL had a couple of choice and in the end signed with MASSACRE RECORDS, who did the best offer and gave the band all possible support.
The following album Slaughter Prophecy was recorded at House Of Music again with producer mAchim Köhler and once again offered traditional metal of highest class but with a good portion more of aggression, heaviness and Fuck you attitude. SACRED STEEL afterwards played mayn shows with bands like
CANDLEMASS, ELIXIR, OSTROGOTH and festivals like the Headbangers Open Air and the Bang Your Head re-visited!
In May 2004 the House Of Music was entered again to record the 5th album Iron Blessings.Antother album without compromises and the perfect combination between power and traditional metal hymns. Although many bands get slower and more melodic with the years SACRED STEEL always try to reach new extremes and zu define the words HEAVY and METAL as no other band! Or as the band would say: IF METAL AIN´T HEAVY, IT AIN´T HEAVY METAL!!!
After doing a break during the year 2005, in which the band members conentrated on their other projects (DAWN OF WINTER, MYSTIC PROPHECY and MY DARKEST HATE) the band decided in a meeting to bury the 10 year-old steady line up, as not all members had the strongest euphoria anymore. For a short time it even a split was possible, as it was hard to imagine without the founding members Oli and Jörg. But the three remaining members Matze, Jens and Gerrit soonafter decided to continue!
Jonas Khalil, who was the bands guitar tech and di-hard fan was recruited as new guitarist. Soonafter Kai Schindelar from the labelmates LANFEAR was chosen as new bassist and completed the line up. Former bassist Jens now took over the guitar. ONWARD TO WORLD DOMINATION!!!
To pay tribute to the original line up and the past of the band , Massacre Records will release early 2006 the live CD + DVD named Live Blessings , which includes a complete SACRED STEEL live set in front of a fanatic crowd along with some specials included in the package - be prepared!
In July 2006 SACRED STEEL will enter Spiderhouse Studios in Germany's capitol Berlin to record a new masterpiece of ass-kicking metal.
