BILLBOARD - 1990's Seattle Rock act Truly will come out of hiding next year, nearly a decade after it's last release. Comprised of ex-Screaming Trees drummer Mark Pickerel, ex-Soundgarden bassist Hiro Yamamoto and singer/guitarist Robert Roth, the band issued several psychedelic-tinged, hard rocking releases for Sub-Pop, Capitol and Thick before calling it a day after 1997's 'Feeling You Up'"

KERRANG! - 5 ***** - "You need to hear Truly. You really do. If you like bands with integrity, passion, originality and power you should kill for a copy of 'Fast Stories...' right now. No Kidding."

NME - " a heavily melodic and brilliant psychedelic rock band... with warm blast blasts of Mellotron and tremelo-bent guitar noise as well as a clutch of classic pop songs."

Q - "a hypnotically potent debut ('Fast Stories...')... this proof that the Seattle scene is not dead yet."

MOJO - "Like onetime label-mates Radiohead, Truly found curious and inventive ways to revisit the the sounds and impulses of prog-rock."

CMJ - "Inevitably, people are going to focus on the fact that Truly includes former members of Soundgarden and Screaming Trees... but there's a hell of a lot more to this this band than an alumni society."

DETAILS - "Art rock from Soungarden and Screaming Trees Alumni with sheets-of-sound guitars. A sonic speedball."

RAYGUN - "Strangely beautiful and completely entrancing"

ROCKERILLA - (Fast Stories...) 3 BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR - 95' (Feeling You Up') 9 BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR 98'

BUZZ - "instantly classic, psychedelic rock songs with tunes, attitude and genuine atmosphere. It's 60's meets 90's and it works like a dream."

MTV ONLINE - [Top 20 Best of 95' 14] - "the depth and dimension of Pink Floyd, the punk sensibilties of the Wipers, the keyboard stylings of the Doors & the luxuriousness of My Bloody Valentine"

CASHBOX - "The best pure rock record so far this year" (96')

RIP MAGAZINE - HOTTEST NEW GROUP 95' and DEADLIEST DISC 95'

KERRANG! - 5 ***** (again!) SEATTLE'S NEW SUPERSTARS "exceeds all expectations... Truly handle the epic and complex without descending into pretension... an embarrassment of riches..."

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER - "Truly's debut on Capitol Records is an eerie, atmospheric record that defies comparison to other major label releases by Seattle bands... From jagged, dropped tuned guitars to hypnotic old movie soundtracks, Fast Stories is a harrowing Doors-like ride through a tangled, post Cobain landscape of broken dreams and disheartening social change... a profoundly affecting album." GRADE A

NME - PICK OF THE MONTH -'Feeling You Up' - "these ex-members of Soundgarden and Screaming Trees we're shaking up the post-grunge odds with their take on head-spinning psychedelic rock."

CMJ - "Truly's carefully constructed pillar of sound is founded on elements from three decades of drug-induced pop darkness... a beguiling concoction, a sound characterized not only by atmospherics, but genuinely clever song-craft."

ALTERNATIVE PRESS - " A flurry of press notices and "next big thing" announcements greeted Truly when they debuted in 1995... not only because the drummer and bassist came from Screaming Trees and Soundgarden, respectively. Their sound reflected the maturing sensibility of the Seattle survivors who added deeper emotional ranges to their melodies and instrumental expression."

TROUSER PRESS - "there's a lot more to Truly than it's family tree. Truly exists pretty much in a world of it's own... a driving, riff-heavy rock band, the sharp edges are subtly blunted by a miasmic narco-haze mix. Heavy, but never bludgeoning, excessive, but never ridiculous... an extended trip into rock's outer dimensions."

SASSY - CUTE BAND ALERT = Truly

BIO

In 1989, before the successful Seattle scene became a world wide phenomena, 23 year old Robert Roth's first band, the Storybook Krooks dissolved. Two weeks later he found himself trying out for Nirvana as a second guitarist. Nirvana's first guitarist left to join Soundgarden whose founding bass player, Hiro Yamamoto, had just retired from playing music professionally. While waiting for a decision from Nirvana, Robert met 21 year old drummer Mark Pickerel. Mark was a founding member of the Screaming Trees and was also playing in a side project, called Lithium, with Kurt and Chris from Nirvana and Mark Lanegan from the Screaming Trees. Mark Pickerel was not completely comfortable with "The Trees" new major label trappings, and when Robert and Mark played together for the first time in November of 1989, the chemistry was obvious. The two of them played some of Robert's 4 track demos for Sub Pop and they were subsequently asked to record their first EP in September of 1990.

A month later, they debuted as the opening act for The Jesus Lizard. Early in 1991, Mark invited Hiro Yamamoto, who he knew from the Soundgarden/Trees touring days, to join Truly. They met at the Sub Pop headquarters, and it was agreed that Truly would try to create a more sophisticated sound than the typical music of the time, that they would do things on their own terms, and would only play and tour when they wanted to, not because they had to.

Truly's first EP was finally released in October of 1991. The first two pressings sold out in under three months, while the catchy, power pop "Married in the Playground was a hit on local radio. Recording began on a full length album for Sub Pop in the Spring of 1992. A few of these recordings (such as Hot Summer 91 and Chlorine) became centerpieces for Fast Stories from Kid Coma. Capitol Records took over the project in 1993, and the Capitol Tower buzzed hard on Truly's distinctively warm, heavy, hook driven and Mellotron drenched sound.

Fast Stories was released in June 1995 to resounding great reviews, as well as making several "album of the year" lists worldwide.

After touring the US and Europe, Truly began writing and recording demos for their follow up album. A huge corporate shake up at Capitol brought major confusion to the label and held up the releases of many of their new artists. After much delay, Truly asked and were allowed to leave the label.

A new emphasis on song craft and a sharper production style marked the changes evident in 1997-98s second album, Feeling You Up. The second album was released on Chicago based Thick Records in America and Cargo/Headhunter Internationally, once again to highly favorable press.

The year 2000 brought the release of a European import album of rare and unreleased tracks and demos called Twilight Curtains on Sweetnothing Records Cargo/UK.

Robert, Mark, and Hiro are currently in the midst of working on new material with the notion of going back into the studio and record another album. 2008 could very well be a GREAT time for some new music from these Northwest dark horses.

lprs038  - Luke Lukas - llll
Luke Lukas is back with  an album full of that gleeful gloom that made us love him at first sight. His trustworthy 4-tracks and him go their separate ways so he's now presenting 12 perfectly arranged folk songs to us. Luke reveals himself as a kind soul, but like the western movies taught us, a dreadful killer always hides under every placid looking Texan.
"Leaving his strongly lo-fi sound that impressed us the first time, he treasures the recipe, packing in this new plain, delightful work a caring love for vocals, which are worthy of Neutral Milk hotel, with a touch of Chordettes feel." Daniele Dileo - Lab Magazine
