About me:

The Trumbull Animal Group, (TAG) is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization formed in 1999. We work closely with the Trumbull Animal Control Officer to provide a variety of services to lost and/or abandoned animals admitted to the Trumbull Shelter. We make every effort to assist in locating permanent, loving homes for all adoptable animals. The purpose of this non-profit organization is to work to further the cause of the humane and ethical treatment of animals. To this end, the organization looks to raise public awareness of the problems facing animals in the area, will work to reduce the incidents of animal neglect and abuse, seek to facilitate in the adoption of animals and raise funds for the upkeep and betterment of the animals at Trumbull Animal Shelter. ..

A few cats are housed at the shelter but many more are kept in foster homes in Trumbull and the surrounding towns. Make an appointment with our Cat Adoption Advisor to see the cats. If you wish to you can email a completed Cat Adoption Application by going to http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CT18.html#Adopting Our Cat Adoption Advisor will review the application and get in touch with you.

* Other Adoptions *

Periodically we have smaller animals available for adoption. Check the site frequently for updates to our adoptable pets listings. We also hold open house adoption events at the shelter usually once a month. View our Adoption Event calendar to see the upcoming scheduled events. Unfortunately online applications are not available.

Who I'd like to meet:

Get Involved!

We always welcome donations of dog food. Pedigree is preferred as we try to keep the dogs on a consistent diet. In addition we also need chew toys of all kinds to keep the dogs occupied. The cat people also welcome donations of cat food, cat toys and clay litter.

We at TAG continually work with our dogs, so be sure to read the updates so that you can see the progress made by the dogs. We would like to think they wouldn't be around long enough for an update but that's not always the case. We continue to try our best to make sure we get a proper home for the dogs and any other impounded animals. Volunteers help by walking and socializing the dogs, keeping the shelter clean and organized, fundraising, etc. We also create newsletters, brochures, and posters to keep members and the public informed of our activities and take pictures of the animals available for adoption and post these picture here on Petfinder and in the Trumbull Times. Often, animals admitted to the shelter require non-emergency medical care. Funds raised through membership dues, contributions and fund raising events pay for needed immunizations, spaying and neutering, and non-emergency illness and injuries. TAG has also purchased supplies and equipment for the shelter to improve care of the animals. Through the combined efforts of TAG and the Trumbull Canine Shelter staff, our four legged friends are well cared for while waiting for a permanent home.

    Photobucket * * * TOP 10 REASONS TO SPAY OR NEUTER YOUR PET! * * *

    Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life. Spaying helps prevent uterine infections and breast cancer, which is fatal in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.

    Neutering provides major health benefits for your male. Besides preventing unwanted litters, neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer, if done before six months of age.

    Your spayed female won't go into heat. While cycles can vary, female felines usually go into heat four to five days every three weeks during breeding season. In an effort to advertise for mates, they'll yowl and urinate more frequently—sometimes all over the house!

    Your male dog won't want to roam away from home. An intact male will do just about anything to find a mate! That includes digging his way under the fence and making like Houdini to escape from the house. And once he's free to roam, he risks injury in traffic and fights with other males.

    Your neutered male will be much better behaved. Neutered cats and dogs focus their attention on their human families. On the other hand, unneutered dogs and cats may mark their territory by spraying strong-smelling urine all over the house. Many aggression problems can be avoided by early neutering.

    Spaying or neutering will NOT make your pet fat. Don’t use that old excuse! Lack of exercise and overfeeding will cause your pet to pack on the extra pounds—not neutering. Your pet will remain fit and trim as long as you continue to provide exercise and monitor food intake.

    It is highly cost-effective. The cost of your pet's spay/neuter surgery is a lot less than the cost of having and caring for a litter. It also beats the cost of treatment when your unneutered tom escapes and gets into fights with the neighborhood stray!

    Spaying and neutering your pet is good for the community. Stray animals pose a real problem in many parts of the country. They can prey on wildlife, cause car accidents, damage the local fauna and frighten children. Spaying and neutering packs a powerful punch in reducing the number of animals on the streets.

    .. Your pet doesn't need to have a litter for your children to learn about the miracle of birth. Letting your pet produce offspring you have no intention of keeping is not a good lesson for your children—especially when so many unwanted animals end up in shelters. There are tons of books and videos available to teach your children about birth in a more responsible way...

    Spaying and neutering helps fight pet overpopulation. Every year, millions of cats and dogs of all ages and breeds are euthanized or suffer as strays. These high numbers are the result of unplanned litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering.
