Praise for Danielle Trussoni:

The chapters are brilliantly written, with exacting details both of characterization and of setting. Indeed, the details of the tunnels have a sensory specificity that brings the reader implacably into the story's world; this achievement is even more remarkable, given the claustrophobia of these locales and the difficulty of making the characters more than "types," which the writer succeeds in doing with considerable grace. The material does not seem at all researched. It seems experienced, lived-through, and the final effect is revelatory and harrowing. Charles Baxter, author of The Feast of Love

Trussoni has taken an extended trip to hell and come back with treasures from that drunken, burning, broken place. She writes of the effects of war, the pity of war, and the pity that war distills without a hint of self-pity, with surprising humour, disarming candor, a hard-won wisdom and with uncannily sure-footed prose. Even if this book were not urgently important and devastatingly timely, Id still urge you to read it for the sheer triumph of the authors gift.Alexandra Fuller, author of Dont Lets Go to the Dogs Tonight

Trussonis memoir is a richly textured history of her fathers war and the long term effects his service had on her and her family. With Falling Through the Earth she delivers a salient and timely reminder that a wars victims arent limited to those in uniform nor demarcated by geography. This is an important and harrowing story.Anthony Swofford, author of Jarhead

Danielle Trussoni unflinchingly explores a daughters love for her flawed father and confronts the demons that haunt them both. Falling Through the Earth is tender and tough, harrowing and triumphant.Jeanette Walls, author of The Glass Castle

Like the fearless father she takes after, Danielle Trussoni tunnels at her story from both ends: Through the rabbit hole of childhood, she explores a tumultuous divorce. From the trench of adulthood, she leads us through a country still poisoned by war. But Falling Through the Earth has an innermost chamber. It is a place of profound depth and beauty, where Trussoni unearths Trussoni herself. --Koren Zailckas, author of Smashed

Danielle;

I am an author, a father, an ex-husband, son of a vietnam veteran, grandson of a WWII veteran and I am a Warfighter. I left to fight in Iraq over two years ago and haven't made it home yet other than a couple of days here and there, but I am alive. I think I am qualified to speak about the topic of your book from many angles.

The subject of your book resonates deeply with many families across our military history, but especially now. Our society has a consciousness like never before. Not only do I believe your book will do well, it deserves to do well and I pray it does well because we need the message you convey.

Be safe and stay in touch,
Boone Medlock

i was planning to get my momsk a betta fishie named angus that would be housed in a large vase with crystal blue marbles in the bottom and a peace lily plant that i would uncarefully shove into the vase, but she said she didn't want it, which is rude. you take what you get. it's the thought that counts and la-de-da. SHE was the one who taught me that. if i give you a log of...nevermind. just joshing.

i bought her your book instead :) and a candle. a snoopy card, too.

'City Smells' is a new literary project set up by the Edit Red Writing Community.

We are running three writing competitions, Flash Fiction, Creative Non-Fiction and Poetry, all with the theme 'City Smells. The winners of each of these competitions will win $100. But more than this, we will take the best work from each competition and compile a paperback 'City Smells' anthology. The writers who make it into the 'City Smells' anthology will each receive free copies of the book and be paid a royalty in book sales.

To submit to these competition and stand a chance of being published in the 'City Smells' book you must be a member of Edit Red, as the submission process is automated. Joining Edit Red and entering these competitions is 100% free. If you make it into the book, we will pay royalties based on book sales.

Edit Red has existed for many years and was created and is still managed today by non-fiction author Alan Emmins, creative writing teacher Chris Lee Ramsden and literary reviewer Sean Merrigan.

If you are not already a member, we hope you will join and take part in this great literary event. Sign up here for free!

Regards
Alan, Sean and Chris

Danielle, just heard you on WPR minutes ago! Took a break to comment. Amusing that a few callers only mentioned your siblings. I do not recall every meeting them [I have only been in the 32nd St. house( beige, on a corner I think)-digging back and down, maybe Nessa was over and I came by and we were going to watch 'harry and maude', but I had to leave early. Sound familiar?] Anyway I still remember your young poetry, specifically, 'i am a typing error', but lost my copy years ago, when moving. Message me if you'll be in LaCrosse this week, or just to catch up. - Jeffrey H.
