5,4,3,2,1......BLAST OFF the TRU STARRZ are headed straight to the top!! These starr studded young men are definitely two talented, shinning stars with plenty of great things lined up for their future. The Tru Starrz, a.k.a Yung Rich and Gunna, are the two hip hop/pop artists everyone's talking about. All the girls love them and all the guys wanna be like them. The pair are based out of Atlanta, Georgia, but were raised up north -- Yung Rich is originally from Brooklyn, New York and Gunna’s from Southeast, D.C. But from the sound of their music you would never know where they’re from and that’s one of the reasons why the Tru Starrz stand out from the rest.
"The Tru Starrz are two guys that like to work, have fun and party. We try to keep everything positive and stay out of the way of trouble and that's mainly why we both moved down to Atlanta. Who knows what we would be into living up north. It’s a blessing that we are able to experience this side of life, plus living in Atlanta has given us a better chance to have our music heard. We have both been rapping since the age of 7, but we have been doing our thing together as a group since 2005. Music is our everything, we put every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears into our craft to give people fun, enjoyable music that they can love and be able to relate too. We try our best to be different and stand out from everyone else -- from our music to our swag. When it comes to our music we try to do what people think is hot but we always add our own flavor to it. Being that we’re a hip hop/pop group we do all types of music from pop/rock, R&B, up north rap to down south rap. We don't talk about things that we aren't living and we would rather keep our music fun and positive to please the ear of all listeners from girls to guys, and from young to old."
"Although we've been a group since 2005, we became the Tru Starrz in 2008. We met each other as solo artists and didn't decide to become a group until we began working on music together as label mates. We would do songs featuring each other and received better responses together than on our solo projects. Plus, when we would create the songs together we felt that group chemistry. We create songs so easily, we’ll use a concept from a situation we’re going through or we’ll be talking and pull a word or a line out of what we’re saying and use it for a song title. Once we get the concept and title -- the hook is easy -- one of us will say a line and the other will come in right away with the next line.”
Back in 2007 the duo took a break as a group and tried out their solo careers again. It wasn't until 2008 that they did their first track together again. "The first track we did together after the break was Kandy Gurl. The response we got from that song was so crazy, girls went wild for that song on MySpace -- within the first 2 days of having it up we got over 1000 plays. We couldn't figure out which one of us would take the song so we made it a group thing and named ourselves Tru Starrz. After that we had to stay a group cuz people wanted to hear more from us as a group. Doing Kandy Gurl is when we also realized it was time to change our style. That song made us see that keeping our music clean, positive and fun was a much better route to take. So ever since all we make is music that's real, fun, and positive, as well as different. This is how we evolved from hop hop/rap artists to hip hop/pop artists."
Since they became the Tru Starrz in 2008, things have been looking real good for Yung Rich and Gunna. They dropped their debut album, "Party Time", which features hot singles like Kandy Gurl, Starr Studded, Jus Like U, Shopaholic, Swag In Swag Out, and much more. They have performed at a number of showcases, open mic's around Atlanta, sweet 16 birthday parties, fashion shows, basketball games, and block parties. They have performed for crowds of 5000+ people, have been featured on different websites and online blogs, and have even been featured in several magazines. There's no doubt about it, these two guys are working extremely hard with their music and from the looks of things it all seems to be paying off for them.
It’s very rare to find artists with a grind like Yung Rich and Gunna; never having to wait on the help of anybody, they pretty much do it all on their own. They do everything from writing and structuring their own music, designing their own graphics for MySpace pages and flyers, creating their own marketing ideas, doing their own video production to start up their online reality show (known as Tru Starrz TV), and even designing their own products to start up their clothing line, Tru Starr Fashion. "We never had anything given to us; we work hard for everything we have. We both worked part time jobs taking every dime from our pay checks to finance our business ventures. We love music so much and we want it too bad -- there's no way we could sit around and wait for someone to give it to us.” The Tru Starrz definitely have the talent to be much more than just music artists; they have the grind and the mentality to be the next young entrepreneurs in the entertainment business.
"We have big dreams and there is a lot that we want to achieve in our future, such as making a name for ourselves with our music, making Tru Starr Fashion the next biggest urban clothing line, starring in movies, getting a reality show on national television, and even doing commercials and magazine ads. We want to be able to take our fame and inspire people who may look up to us to do positive things with their lives. We also want to be able to give to different charities. Bottom line, we just want to be as successful as God sees fit and be able to make a difference in a positive way.”
You can expect nothing but great things from two talented, humble guys like the Tru Starrz. They plan to keep working and grinding and giving their listeners back-to-back hits to love and enjoy. It seems to be a nice smooth road for the Tru Starrz as they make their way to the top and they don’t have any plans ..ping anytime soon. As for their immediate future, they’re gonna continue living like a Tru Starr and shining like a Tru Starr -- if you look up in the sky and I bet you'll see a TRU STARR!!!!
