Worship -- what is it really? This seems to be a huge point of discussion among Believers and most often is associated with the type of service or usually a song we sing -- but is that really what it's about? I mean -- is it really about a older hymn verse a new hymn (new contemporary music)? As a worship leader, this is something I think and pray about quite a lot. It seems there is quite a bit of pressure put on those that lead worship as we are perceived to be responsible for the worship of the individuals around whom we lead and if folks aren't worshipping then the worship leader is to blame because the service or music just didn't "touch" someone. Now before you judge me on what's written here -- read on...
You see -- I am convinced that worship is the responsibility of each individual. It is an individuals choice to worship and that choice is usually expressed with a body of believers. We have somehow twisted worship to be something we expect to receive -- but worship is something we should be prepared to "give" -- it is an outpouring of ourselves to the mighty God who gave His life for us. As a worship leader, all I can do is worship myself and provide an environment where everyone can freely worship. No where in the Bible does it dictate to us what "music" or "order of service" is acceptable -- we are simply told to "fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to observe the Lord's commands and decrees" (Deuteronomy 10:12-13).
JT has a heart for the struggles and trials our young adults face and that many are currently experiencing. As an individual that fell out of a relationship with Christ, JT spreads a positive message of hope sharing his life to help young people understand the obstacles and traps present in this world. JT's music and message present Christ's love encouraging others to renew their commitment to Christ or even find Him for the first time.
